Great photos Cindy! I anxiously await the opening of that Eriostemma of yours. The buds look slightly reddish so maybe your plant will have a nice red bloom.

Either it's a coincidence or pachyclada fever is going around because I also felt an overwhelming need to get one this week.

I must say that this one is the pink form,I also have the white one but it has decided not to bloom this year.
What one did every one else order.I love this hoya and cant seem to pass this one by.

I just received patella yesterday, the flower is supposed to be real pink and new leaves a pinkish brown. She was right, the new leaves are a pinkish brown. Just tried to take a picture of the new leaf but it didn't come out well, wrong lighting I guess. Will try in the daylight.

I purchased a H. pachyclada from Gardino's this spring and I hope the flowers on my plant are the same as on your plant. My plant has a couple of peduncles, but no buds, so far. (:o(

Nice blooms! My pachyclada has the creme colored centers - I wish it had that reddish color - GORGEOUS!

I'm also curious as to which eriostemma you have...and I can't wait to see the blooms.

I got the plant with the blooms that have red centers. From what I have read Hoya pachyclada and Hoya subquintuplinervis are often sold mislabeled. Christine Burton sheds some light on the issue of plants with blooms that have a red center.

Mike...that was very interesting reading...what is this article from? I'm wondering if it's from a journal or something similiar that one could subscribe to? I've never heard of this lady before, however, she sounds very well-versed in Hoyas. There's such little literature available on Hoyas...I wish people like the above woman, along with Ted Green, the Hawaii Lady, Dale Kloppenburg, Jane Wayman, David Liddle, P. Forster and perhaps Joni at SRQ could get together and write a book on Hoyas...all of the known ones, including the ereostemmas, the centrostemmas, plus the particular needs for each of them. I believe there's a real need for such a publication as well as a large number of enthusiasts that would jump at a chance to purchase such a book. I belong to the Internat'l Hoya Assn. and enjoy their quarterly publication...but, it's greatly lacking as it doesn't cover the "needs" of each Hoya...basically only a description of them...nice pictures, though. The group would be wise to include on their panel some forum members such as you, Jan, of course Denise, and others to write on the necessary conditions for successfully growing each type of Hoya. There's just so much diversity from one Hoya group and another...everything from watering, lighting, temperature requirements, special requirements such as lime or charcoal, et al. Just me "babbling" again!!! LOL Patrick

Yes, a book on culture would be nice, but most of the folks you mentioned above do not get along very well, unfortunately.

Christine Burton is really trying to figure out the true identity of a lot of the misnamed hoya species. Chris always provides documentation to back up her reasoning for her conclusions. Some of the others in the group above are not that dedicated to the cause.

As you go through the past issues of PS-The Hoyan, you will find out that a lot of what is published in the Int'l Hoya Assn publication is not accurate. I've had a sub to this for a year and I am not going to renew due to so much wrong info and that fact there isn't any cultural info.

If you are not aware of the Stemma Journal, here is a link to a great publication that Mark Randal puts out about once a quarter. Lots of great info here. You can download the PDFs from the site. You will need Adobe Acrobat reader to download the PDFs.

Go to the downloads link at the top for all of the Journals that have been published so far. The Journal is free, which I find amazing, given the great info and amount of time that Mark puts into the publication.

There is a new book on Hoyas that was just published recently. I believe it is from Sweden. I've heard good things about this book and need to order it. The cost is $45.00 US and includes postage.

I agree with Mike in that the International Hoya Association is not worth the money. I got a subscription to see what it was like and I am not at all impressed with the publication.

Stemma Jouranl is a fantastic online journal and it's free so I highly recommend looking at the old issues and the photo gallery on their website.

Rainbow Garden Bookstore has a good selection of Hoya books although many are scientific publications and they are not aimed at hobby growers but instead document Hoyas in habitat and generally focus on a particular region and it's Hoya species.

Thanks to both Mikes!! I've been to the Stemma Journal..I'm unable to download anything. I've purchased and read ALL of the books on Hoyas from Rainbow Garden...you're right, Mike (Ont) they're very technical and make difficult reading...I plowed through them somehow. What I found most interesting is just how little the "experts" really know about Hoyas...and how often they contradict each other. I'm sorry to hear that the authorities on Hoyas don't get along...too common, I'm afraid. Mike (Mn)...thanks for the links...I'll certainly check on that Swedish one and the Hoyan. When you open one of the PDFs, go to file and then click on "save a copy". You may have to decide where to save the copy and it's always easiest to just save the copy to your desktop or your documents file. It may take a bit to download, depending on how fast your Internet connection is.
