Hibiscus coccineus & hardy hibiscus

Lowe's is selling a few varieties of hardy hibiscus. But no one can tell me, and I can't find any info on the web, as to whether or not they're deciduous. I'm tired of tender and deciduous plants making the yard look bad for months in winter, so am trying to go hardy/evergreen. Anyone know if they're evergreen in the Tampa area?

Don't know about Tampa but the H coccineus should be dormant here right now. Not all of it is because of the very warm fall but I think it's starting to die back.

dormant as in "not growing" but does it keep it's leaves? or by "die back" do you mean dropping leaves? I just don't want to stare at a bare plant for months on end. I don't care if it goes dormant, as long as it holds it leaves.

Most take about 2 weeks to sprout, and they don't seem to have TOO many problems down south.

The satin variety of Rose of Sharon is the closest I know that is what you are talking about. They are working on a new hybrid, but it isn't on the market yet. The satin strain of Rose of Sharons have much darker foilage than the other ROS, and they seem to grow faster also. I also love the dark foilage of the tropicals, that is why I overwinter them in my zone. Mabey someone else will know of a hardy tropical like hibiscus, you never know. Good Luck!
