I'm looking for "air-plants" to tuck into my Palmetto hedge. Things that will grow without soil, and with minimal care. The area is dappled shade, and gets early morning sunlight. I can trade Siam Ruby Bananas, Kiwis (male and female), Dragonfruits, and many other fruiting plants. Have both types of Moringas if anyone wants me to start some. They grow easily and rapidly from seed. Lisa

Heys guys, I don't have much experience starting plants but I made an attempt so I would have something to share. I snipped and stuck in a pot 2 pieces of Giant Fantasy coleus and 2 pieces of Inky Fingers coleus, 1 blackberry waffles coleus. I dug up 3 small Kimberly ferns, 3 Portweeds. I attempted to separate a baby from my agave attenuata but I had no idea how to do it and I got barely any roots so I have no idea if it will make it. I have two pieces of epidendrum radicans (i think that is what you guys id'd it as) that I haven't potted because I can't figure out how to do it, but I have been watering them :-> I also have a bucket of bromeliads that I had dug up months ago when I had a tree removed in Stuart. I forgot all about them and they aren't in soil either but they appear to be fine. These are the bromeliads I have two of these NOID plants, might be succulents. These are the epi pieces I don't want any plants since I am moving but I really need a piece of the tree sunflower. Wannarunfaster, can you bring me a piece of the tree sunflower? Would you like anything that I am bringing?

Anything is worth a try! Take some cutting of soft and semi soft wood, remove most of the leaves, and put the stems deeply in a pot with soil and keep watered. It works better in the summer with lots of humidity, but you've got nothing to loose to try it now. Just get as many leaf nodes in the pot as possible.

Funny you should mention that, Wanda...when I got my cutting from Tracy at Seminole Springs, that is exactly what she did. I remember doing that, too, and also with petunias. Of course, as a kid, I tried all sorts of stuff like that...my aunt had to stop me from putting chinaberries in my salad once. Probably would have killed me! It's a wonder I survived childhood at all! Marilyn, I'm sure many of your cuttings will find good homes. In the older parts of town, Turk's caps are still seen forming long, tall hedges and beautiful accent plants. There's a reason they are still here after so many years. They LOVE Florida, unlike so many landscape plants sold today. Marcia
