Mad Diary of Zone Busting in Zone 3 ...The End is a Long Way Away
Comments (7)Oh my. What is a passionate rose lover like you doing in that glacial hell hole? Reading about your endeavors has exhausted me and I haven't even lifted a shovel. I admire your grit and determination, but would love to see you rewarded with thousands of blooms on your rose bushes for all your hard work. I bet they could use engineers in zones 7 to 10!...See Moreits starting!(boring photo heavy)
Comments (10)hostasformez4....i know it looks like manure but its course compost i use...the mix is really used for potting roses up with a low nitrogen and added potash mix and quite abit of grit...but my hostas seem to love it! there was a mention in another post about my 'pilgrim' so here is a pictureof it from last year...See Morequestion for 'bunnycat'
Comments (3)Hi UK-hostaman~ The eyes are about 6 inches tall, getting ready to unfurl. Hope the rabbit doesn't get this one. Mr. Rabbit has already eaten all or most of one of my Sagaes, Queen of the Seas, Aristocrat, Ultramarine, Guardian Angel, and a few others. The dogs are 14, and not up to chasing a bunny. (I only have access to a computer when my husband brings his laptop home, so can be slow to respond) I bought Arc de Triomphe in 2006 with 4 eyes. I knew nothing about it, but thought it was really attractive. It gets better each year. No need to pamper it with a careful placement, like some require. Mine gets lots of sun. ~Bunnycat...See MoreReview of newer hostas
Comments (14)I'm not sure if they've been introduced in the last ten years but the newer ones to me that have grown well are: Reptillian Cutting Edge Mack the Knife Black Hills Christmas Pagent Sentimental Journey Alex Summers The ones below I got last year. Some were from the middle of the summer and some were at the very end and looking as ratty as could be. In spite of that all of the following have really taken off. They've passed up many of my much older plants. Lacy Belle Carolina Blue Carolina Sunshine Li'l Abner Ice Cream Arc de Triomphe Bob Deane Chesterland Gold Anne Kulpa Fire Island Iron Gate Glamour (this may be an older one but boy did it grow! It's in pure, hot sun and looks great) Ophir Orange Marmalade Satisfaction Summer Breeze Pieter, have you tried Morning Light in lots of sun with lots of water? Mine was very slow growing too with only some morning sun. This year I replaced it with Christmas Candy which was twice as big in one year. I put Morning Light in a pot on the west side balcony with a few others. It gets full, boiling sun from early afternoon to sunset. It's way too hot to be on this balcony for humans. It is doing wonderful without a mark on the center, white part. I'll post a picture once we see if it's ok with Maureen on this thread (as Janice said above). By the way - my Twilight is by far the darkest black/green of any of my plants. It's amazing. McT...See Morepaula_b_gardener 5b_ON
