Awww, Eleven, that one even looks tender as a baby. Very nice. I do not have Autumn Frost. However, my attitude and appreciation of blue hosta has changed dramatically since the spring. I'm finding the blue can stay in my temps with watering and adequate shade. My preference is always for the thick substanced plants, either flat leaves or the corrugated ones. But I like the ones best which stay smooth at maturity. Otherwise, they take on the look of a boxer with cauliflower ears, and look too contorted and beat up. My Rhino Hide has avoided slug damage so far. Maybe because I keep shifting its location, and the slimeys cannot find it. I made a note that Don (Rawson) said it was slow to grow, and wrote that on its ID tag--then it put on a spurt of growth that surprised me. Maybe the hosta can tell the difference in rain and watering from a hose?

Denis...you referring to these?!!? Went looking for hostas...not enough stock in yet...but came home with these yesterday. That is a tru-dwarf Mugo Pine and a Hanoki Cypress. The taller one in back seemed to have survived the winter ... still has winter colour but should be blue-ing up soon hopefully. Know nothing much about the care of them yet. of course I understand the motorbike needing shelter.... eyes rolling back rotfl.. btw - them wee dwarf conifers are for my mini hosta garden...idea still in my head.;-) Barb, that is truly hilarious! We are a weird bunch aren't we?

My Blue Ivory has been worth keeping. Slugs rarely bother it, and it definitely stands out in the yard. It doesn't start out yellow like First Frost, but it does show wear and tear sooner. Mine hasn't been such a slow grower that I would have given up on it, but I got it as a good-size plant. Here's a pic from June 2014. Blue Ivory, Halcyon, and June were all obtained as nice-size plants from the same eBay seller in June 2010. Back then I didn't know about patents and all, so the first thing I did after receiving them was to divide them. Thus all three plants you're seeing had been divided at least twice by this 2014 pic. I didn't use to fertilize at all until recently, and they only received whatever rain they got (2017 was the first year I babied the yard, and all it did was rot several of the new baby TC hostas). Unlike the TC baby hostas I got this year and planted in soil-less soil, the three you see in this pic have been grown in heavy clay soil with mulch on top...literally nothing else added to it. Up until this year, I questioned whether this Blue Ivory was BI at all since I only received metal tags with them back in 2010 and this BI never displayed the blue blush...up until this year. Last Fall I planted one division under our dogwood tree which is tiny and yet the BI definitely noticed the difference and came back with the blue blush only in that one location (more shade than the others). All have Northern exposure with a good amount of sun, but obviously not as much as Southern exposure (which I did try with a couple of divisions too, and they fried badly enough that I moved them back to Northern). So I'd say the trickiest part about it is finding the right spot for it. Too much sun and it burns too badly...too little sun and the blue blush will diminish its beautiful white edge (which is similar to but wider than El Nino's). The only thing that I might contribute the growth of mine to is that I do chop off any ugly-looking leaves quite regularly, which I'm guessing has been forcing it to put out more eyes. Long story short, in my experience, BI is definitely a slower grower than Halcyon and June, but not nerve-wrecking slow. It doesn't stay crisp-looking as long as the other two, but cutting off blemished/burnt leaves solves that for me even though it obviously makes it appear even smaller.
