Looking for zucchini bread and butter pickle - refrigerated

Well I'm new to preserving. I don't have large batches to "put up."

I think I could take any old bread and butter pickle recipe and use the zucchini instead of cucumber - but I'd still have questions.

If I do use another recipe - do I have to salt the zucchini first? I salted the zucchini - when making a batch of relish.

Recipes that I've seen that were not salted - cooked the zucchini for 5 minutes before putting in the jars. I'd rather not do this either - as it seems like this would make them mushy.

If anyone has an exact recipe for this I'd appreciate it - otherwise general questions are - when do I salt the vegetables before pickling and when do I cook before pickling?

Also - I'd like these a little less sugary - any guidelines on looking for a less sweet recipe?
