Blue Ivory is putting on quite a show. New last year, impulse buy, not really familiar with it when I bought. So it is small, but I love it.

Can't resist showing one more. Then I'll let someone else take a turn. Here is Journey's End. Also new last August. Showing some good size, variegation very subtle right now, but that should change.

'Krossa Regal' is the only one I have in the ground that has leafed out almost all the way. It should get pretty wrecked by temps in the 20's tomorrow morning. But hey, it looks great at the moment!!

This is a not so pretty time of the year in the upper Midwest. Snow piles are dirty along roads and sidewalks - to the point where a fresh snowfall would be welcome if only to clean things up a little for a short time. The 2-3' left in the yards is crusted so hard you can walk on it without falling through. It's cold, in the teens and low twenties, but the sun's been out, lovely clear blue skies. But that doesn't help much with the overall "really getting tired of winter" feeling. Oh well, it is March; just shy of two more months of this to endure.

Morning glories are finally blooming like crazy, asters (September ruby) are just starting. Autumn Joy sedum hasn't reached its color peak, but my Brilliant sedum is a very pretty pink (there are tons of butterflies on both kinds of sedum). Gaillardia have been blooming for a long time and still look good. I love my Helenium Mardi Gras which I just planted this year, its been blooming for over a month now. The nasturtiums I planted would still look good, but I had to pull them all up to plant some bulbs. I had put them in a new perennial garden which needed some filler for the first season. Boy, did they fill in! They nearly took over the place. I was a little worried about my new perennials, but they managed to handle the competition. Jan, do you baby your "Nearly Wild" rose over the winter? I bought one this year thinking, "well, if it's nearly wild it must be quite hardy," but some of the reading I've been doing has led me to think otherwise.

We just recently started removing old dead leaves from the base of this Agave Furcraea Macdougalii, but it will be a few more years before it develops much of a trunk. Anyway, it just keeps getting bigger, and it should bloom in another 20 years. Here it is from the other side, which is not back lit:We recently painted the upper part of the house, and so it is no longer white. Here's a photo I took yesterday at Joshua Tree National Park: I used to have a yucca that resembled these, but I do not have any of these plants myself, and so I only visit them.

My Christmas Cassia is bursting out into bloom. I love it, but I should have trimmed it back this year, because the limbs are really long. One goes about 15 ft up into an oak tree. The Purple Showers are blooming like mad. The cranberry hibiscus (H. Acetosella) and Hibiscus radiatus are blooming, but not as bountifully as I'd like them to. Next year, I'll pinch them more. My milkweed and shrimp plants are starting to bloom. The purple wandering jew is looking gorgeous. My one penta is looking a little raggedy, but still blooming Vincas, which did not do well this summer with all the rain, are starting to bloom again. The Little Ruby alternanthera is looking a little faded, and still hasn't bloomed, but it's still pretty. The few marigolds that survived the rains are blooming, but they're really a pretty, bright yellow Nothing else is doing anything much.

Some real beauties there Ludi! I think 'Cascades' is my favourite....or maybe 'Forbidden Fruit' .........and then there's
'Sea Gulf stream' ........ oh my, so many choices!

I may have some contributions in a week or two - can't wait!

I am proud of all of mine and they are all looking very beautiful and stunning this year so far... But, the "Mama Mia" or whatever it is I got from my neighbors last year... It came to me in awful shape. I was surprised I was able to save it! It felt like paper and was so dry and raggy looking when I got her. They kept her in too much sun and not enough water. But, she is looking very beautiful and healthy this year... Healthy and happy!!

I'm very pleased with some of my blues.
Here is Banyai's Dancing Girl with a pale lavender flower peeking out.

Clear Fork River Valley on 4/23 looking tough, but yesterday I found a growing scape on him too. He's a bit bluer than shown.

For Esther, I'm putting in mini beauty Pandora's Box. It's growing just like a "real" hosta, in dwarf form.

And in the same bowl, two Tiny Tears are increased in eye count, and one of them is blooming already. Of course, get your magnifier to see what the bloom is like!

Emily Dickinson almost fully grown and still so pretty with no slug damage. She is one of my beloved fragrant hosta.

Then here's Victory, one of my 2011 hosta

Sweet Standard, another fragrant, is showing its stripes this year. I think I can have it all now....stripes and fragrance?

China Girl, new this year, tall elegant with red legs and a rather vase shape.

and finally, White Knight, another fragrant hosta

Many more are doing fine, they make my morning walkabout a sheer joy. Spring is wonderful when it gets here.
