Plant identity please, has yellow fruit

Just found this plant/tree/shrub today. It is in a part of our yard we haven't cleared yet. Surrounded by palmatto bushes. It has leaves that remind me of small orange tree. The leaves are maybe 1 1/2 inch long and are alternate on the branch. The branch has thorns. The fruit is yellow, some are dropping. They are about the size of a cherry. The inside has a smooth pit a bit smaller than a pistachio nut in its shell. I hope I described it well enough for someone to send me on a hunt to see what it is. My Forest Trees of Florida booklet doesn't show much to compare, and who knows if it is a florida tree! Camara not working for some reason.

I think it is the same thing that is growing wild here. I've never have seen it before but it has started growing since the hurricanes in wild areas. Sure wish I had a camera! It only gets about 3 to 4 ft.tall?
I've tasted it and it is kinda sour.

My Mysore has leaves with a pinkish underside. The Pitogo does not. The pitogo does have some pink in the leaf stem.

Just want to add that I disagree with it being somewhat invasive. I actually think it's fairly invasive. This stuff is growing rather wildly around my area. I frequently see it growing on the sides of roads and in the middle of pastures. Less known to me personally, botanists have been saying that Lantana camara has been cross pollinating with our own native Lantana depressa creating hybrids and rapidly depleting the number of depressa's in the wild.

Looks like Epilobium ciliatum to me. It is a common weed (but native!) that likes moist, shady areas. What you are referring to as "shoots" are actually the sprung-open seed pods -- you can see a few bits of the fluff that are attached to the seeds still hanging on in your photo. Thanks Ethan, Maybe, but did you notice the picture they show is a hybrid from the kei apple. I didn't realize you couldn't post a site you were aware of for others to use. I know you can't try and sell on the forum.

I did notice it was a hybrid pic, but since I was unable to post the other link to tropical site in FL, I was hoping it was better than nothing.

In your favorite search engine, type in "Dovyalis caffra Kei Apple Florida tropical fruit nursery". The nursery is called Top something......they have a nice picture of true Kei apple.

I did a search for florida tropical nurserys and found a tropical web site. It makes me really think it is that tree, or is it a bush. Pretty weird it is tucked in there like that. However it is surrounded by palmetto bushes and it says it blocks plants near it. Oh well, palmettos have their own minds! Now I have to find out if it is ok if a cow eats it as we are going to fence off the front for an alternative pasture for our 2 cows, to give the regular pasture a break. I can't believe how many things are nasty for a cow!

Odd. I typed in Tropicals dot com with a preceding word and the site came up with no alerts from any of my security systems.

Yup, that is what I have. I actually have 2 of them. Found another behind some other palmettos near by. Anyone made preserves out of the fruit?
