I want to thank all of you for your comments and the great photos. I have decided not to get Dancing In The Rain. I think I will get all the others, and also try Paradigm. I have Great Expectations, Paul's Glory, June, Liberty, Fire and Ice, Blue Angel, Krossa Regal, Great American Expectations, as well as many Sieboldiana Elegans and they are all growing really well in my yard with only slight slug damage. I have had to get rid of many nice thin leaved hostas because the slugs loved them and they ended up looking just terrible. I have several cats and dogs and wouldn't use anything for slug control that might harm the pets. Thanks, again, for your help. Sophie

Thank you so much, glad you saw our posts! The third hosta behind the Frosted Dimples (the one with the light center, with the heart-shaped leaf that's quite visible) is quite pretty too from what I can see in that shot. Please let me know the ID of that one as well, if you don't mind. I find it interesting that in that photo your Frosted Dimples and Aristocrat both look taller than the 12-14 inches the online info says they mature to, but I guess what makes them appear taller are the three short hostas near them. I was trying to stick with medium size of around 16 inches (14-18 being preferences), but seeing all of your guys' beautiful pics, already have several newbies that are under 14 inches :) Not only that, but have gone in the other direction too! :-S We'll see how this all turns out, LOL.

Thank you so much everyone. Janice, you are right on and said it so eloquently! In the end, it is ME who has been blessed over these years. Many people comment on what I did for Tom over the years but he (and God through him) gave far more to me than he ever received, I think. :) Angie, you are a doll to make such a generous offer - thank you, thank you! I emailed PDN and the CS manager emailed me back. She said she searched every resource that she could think of and came up empty (how nice was that that she made such an effort!!!????). She suggested I post on the Dave's Garden forum to see if someone would part w/ a division of it or if maybe a "mom and pop" nursery might have one. I think I'll try Dave's and may also post on Hallson's forum - don't know why I didn't think of that. :) I'll keep everyone posted! In the meantime, going to check out my second pick w/ Tom's Dream - thanks Jen! HEY WAIT....(sorry, externally processing this now)...the guy who hybridized this baby lives here in Indy!!!!! I would think he'd have a bazillion of these or know where I could get one, eh? I don't know how he would feel about a random person calling him or writing him... LOL...but maybe it would work! Ok, off to hunt some more. :)

I guess it is sad that so many gardens do have hvx. And the gardeners aren't even aware of it. Or choose not to educate themselves. Or do once it's too late. I suppose it really matters how much you care. I do. I'm a breeder and have many unique plants. Some are coming to market. Hopefully to be enjoyed by others. One I donated for free so that others may enjoy it. It's not about money for me. Considering the hundreds of hours crossing and growing seedlings I would have made more working at McDonald's I have an isolated bed that I've been watching for over 5 years. They were some early plants where I bought from anywhere that sold Hosta. Before hvx was understood. it started as one and moved on to half the bed. The plants were alive and mature but we're looking nastier year after year. Not what they were supposed to look like. I've been destroying the worst ones. I will rescue a couple that are immune. Put in pots and isolate. But alas that soil will be burned by a brush pile and planted with grass never to have hosta there again. i do buy a few plants for breeding these days. They are not cheap. But they are from hosta businesses who can't afford to sell hvx plants. They would quickly go out of business if they did.
