In the NO ID Group shot, the only clue I have to the ID of the pinkish UFO type is that its an old Wild's daylily that I brought here from my previous house. Means I had to have had it for 25 years. Edward- You can see why there was the immediate waiting list for HTTT. If it acts anything like STUMBLING STONE, the edge will get more promounced as it settles in. kay- I like my NO IDs and would not part with them. Before I got the daylily crazies and got on this forum, I saw no reason to keep tags so lots of NO IDs.

This time I was again looking at Brians seedlings pages (have looked at them in the past) and love those updated seedling announcements. I wish more hybridizers would do this. Brian has two seedlings that especially caight my attention 812A and B. I love the instant rebloom factor in some of the daylilies I already have from Brian like FOX POINT and TIKAL MAID so am especially looking for ones with instant rebloom for the future. Of course those were not the only seedlings that caught my attention, I sure did notice the hot color on 905A, wow that sure would look great in my garden :-)) But back to the instant rebloom factor I think its going to become more and more important in northern gardens. I personally am tired of hearing no rebloom on Long Island from local daylily growers. My attitude is why not? If my southern evergreens will not rebloom, I will go elsewhere to add rebloom in my garden. I have that daylily terrace garden that I put in late last fall and planted this spring. I put both FOX POINT and TIKAL MAID in that garden in spots were I see them each and every time I walk out the back door. These two are both very favorite daylilies for me and thats because the flowers are so beautiful. I just knew I would love FOX POINT from the minute I saw its picture. But it looks even better in my yard! TIKAL MAID is much yellower in my garden than the website picture shows and again, I absolutely love it. Such gorgous flowers with such great plant habit. When they put up scapes it was a surprise to me because I saw real branching in my own yard for the very first time. It was "Oh, so THATS what branching SHOULD look like!" So check out Bians 2009 intros if you have not already done so, some real stunners again. Do not forget to look at the other intros from years past too, great, great garden plants with beautiful flowers that will not let you down.

I had more to say, but had to cut the above post short. How we handle the new plants we receive do has a lot to do with how they are planted. I used to plant them directly in the ground. Very few plants will do well here like that since we have quite a bit of clay. I found that I either planted them too deep or too shallow, both will set a plant back. Sometimes they will also sink after being planted awhile. I put them all in pots now, they arrive early in the spring, and by fall they have nice big root systems. I dig an oversized hole spread the roots out a little and fill the hole carefully and have avoided planting too deep or too high that way. I also throw in some milorganite, and some composted leaves, that along with the potting soil seem to help a lot. I gave up on the white sharks teeth plants like MORT MORSS and FORTUNES DEAREST will grow here, but they very seldom get the sharks teeth. I am convinced the weather is the major factor. I have had FORTUNES DEAREST quite awhile now, and it has only had one really nice toothy bloom that I can remember. I have also noticed that many of the Salters plants just will not thrive here and sadly must avoid them unless I see them somewhere up here doing well. I have killed quite a few of them. Northerndaylily, I suspect you are right. I was at Curt Hansons one day while he was cleaning plants from all over the south to take to the CanAm. I remarked on how huge some of them were and was told it was all about fertilizer, and that my friend is why we get those great big fans from down south and watch them shrink. We just don't fertilize like that and I suspect if we did we'd be able to grow them big too!
