It's very beautiful, I could never bring myself to cut the pink off either (currently I don't have KQ, one of my original & most favorite Hoyas). I trust you know that the pink will turn white w/ age; also that should you cut this off, it won't survive as a cutting if it has absolutely no green on it.

I'm w/ you personally, if it were mine I'd leave on just to enjoy also.

Oh! what a beautiful plant. It sure does look like a flower. I would not cut it off either. I have a hoya that has white leaves. I doesn't grow, but I like the way it looks. Almost exotic.

...And that's why a lot of people cut them off, because they can make the plant stop growing as it takes all its energy to sustain those chorophyll-free leaves. But they are stunning. I usually leave them on until the plant starts to show signs of the growth slowing, then I remove them. Between getting rid of the "culprit" leaves and pruning, usually the plant will take off again.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and suggestions. Luckily the pink leaves doesn't seem to be slowing down the plant too much. I have several new growths on there right now. If the plant stops growing, then I will go ahead and cut them off. Until then I will just wait and see...

I think your KQ is big enough that you don't have to worry about a few white/pink leaves taking over. If you do a search in the gallery section, Leon (I forget his user name) posted a pic of his all-white vine, which had developed a peduncle and then blooms. It's really neat. It's from awhile ago, but try doing a search using his name and Krimson Queen (maybe add the word white).

Here is my variegated krinkle 8. Some of the leaves are all yellow and hadn't grown in a long time but I can't seem to bring myself to cut them off. But if it stop growing I may have to. :-(

Jan, that sure is a neat looking plant. I wouldn't cut the yellow leaves off either. It makes it look exotic.

Linda, it does look very similar to mine, it is very pretty! I am so new to the Hoya plants, I would never attempt to say its the same, but definitely looks close.How old is it and has it ever flowered for you?

Hi puglvrl, I have had this hoya about 4 years and no it has never flowered, I have a couple of old hoyas, and have never had a bloom, but since I have been on here I took everyones advice and potted down and fast draining soil, and I use a bloom booster. And I have my fingers cross :). I am new to hoyas too..I never knew what and how many different ones there are..I have had a hindu rope long time (10 yrs) no flowers...in another post I show new ones that I just bought..linda

I know what you mean, till I accidentally found this forum a few months ago, I didn't even know what a Hoya was. No idea what the plant or the flower looked like. Wonder if I'd been better off, I know one thing, I would have more money, LOL... If we weren't spending it on Hoyas, We'd be spending it on something else. At least this is a fun hobby!

I know what you mean about being broke, but I love plants and there just isn't that many places arround here (Minnesota)to find nice house plants..so when I hear about a good place to buy plants I give it a try..
I really like this forum..I have learned alot here, I really like all the pictures everyone post..to see the very nice plants, I have another hoya that looks alot like the one Jan1 posted in this thread..mine has a few redish vines with the white leaves...I should try and post a picture of that one...

Hi all, here is a picture of my hoya that looks alot like jan1,jan1 very nice plant, its one that I have had for along time, hasn't bloomed but I really like the white leaves and the plain green (can't see any plain green I took it off to try growing it alone as denise talked about in another thread) and variegated all on one plant. And at the end of some of the vines it grows like a new plant, I have wondered if I could set it on a pot of soil and root it,(like you can root a spider plant?)
I'm not sure what the name of this one is..when I bought the few hoyas that I had before joining here, never had name tags..

Linda, does your plant have dimples? looks like it has dimples but I can't really tell, if so it is Variegated krinkle 8(not too many people has it). If no dimples then it's carnosa krimson queen(very common).

I believe the above is a KQ (nice), interesting w/ the yellowish cast, I've only seen the white.

KQ can sometimes have those dimpled leaves, but to my eye their identifying characteristic are those 'cupped' leaves (cupped is my term for them, the leaf is rather 3- dimensional looking instead of flat like most leaves).

Hi all, I have to laugh alittle here, I never knew there were so many different hoyas..I was just studying my plant and I have to say, well there are tiny leaves and big leaves and dimpled leaves and cupped leaves, 3 reddish vines with the white to yellow leaves and there was a vine with all green leaves that I took off to try growing as Denise talked about in another thread..I really like this plant because of all the differences in one plant..
Jan's plant above looks to have the cupped leaves too and I see what you mean about the dimples..beautiful plant..
if I should ever get a bloom is that when you can tell what it is?? I posted 2 pictures in this thread, are these 2 plants the same?? when I bought the smaller plant it had kinda heart shaped leaves but the newer growth isn't
and then also it has the pink to reddish color to the leaves...what do you all think??? linda

I don't think carnosa blooms can tell you what type of carnosa you have, because all the flowers look very much the same, differences are subtle, and color variations can be due to things other than type of plant, like environment. For example, variagated carnosas (not KQ, the other one) can have flowers ranging from pale pale pink to a deeper rosy pink. I have given up on trying to figure out types of carnosas, and have mine on my list as just carnosa, whether or not it is variegated, followed by the flower color it gets.

I have tons of white leaves in my tricolor carnosa, and it is covered with flowers right now, I never remove the white leaves.

Your plant is so pretty and healthy! Whatever it is, it sure looks mature enough to flower, so maybe flowers are just around the corner for you.

I'm glad you mentioned that your carnosa has tons of white leaves and that you also have lost of flowers. I know that there are a few that has mentioned it before, but the more we hear from first hand experiences the better we're informed. I just really LOVE the white and pink flowers, its good to know you can keep them and get flowers too. Thanks...
