Just to add to what Julia said:

If you don't want your picture to be too large you can add some text to the HTML code after you have inserted it in your message to make your photo smaller.
Somewhere in the code after the last jpg you can insert width="300" so the code might look like
/May08064.jpg" width="300" border="0"

You can change the 300 to 400 or whatever. Here are some examples

The HTML code is the 3rd one under your photos in photobucket. It pops up when you run your cursor over the photograph.

If you have inserted the photo correctly it will show when you preview your message before posting as Julia says. Someone helped me with this and I printed it out and taped it to my computer!

Adding to what has already been said...

I almost went the PhotoBucket route and even thought about Flickr... but with both of those you have limited quantities of uploads etc., unless you choose to pay for the extras

So I just use my FaceBook photo albums, with the security settings for just those albums set to be viewable by everyone. To the best of my knowledge you can have max 200 pics per album and close to unlimited individual albums.

When pics get uploaded they are resized to a decent size regardless of the orginal size(unless they are already small pics to start with).

Heres the blank HTML for posting pics:

img src="your pic url"

example: img src="http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs642.snc4/60202_431529768493_542183493_5244512_1358265_n.jpg"; (this is without the necessary at the end)

How do you get the image url if you do decide to use your FaceBook photo albums to host the pics you post here ?

In Chrome go to the photo you want to post here, right click on it and choose the option to copy image url, and then past the image url in between the quotation marks

In IE7 and up, go to the pic you want to post here, right click on it, from the pull down menu click on Properties, from that pop-up window you'll see the the Address:(URL), high lite it(all of the url), copy it, and then paste it in between the set of quotation marks.

Then you copy the complete HTML and paste it into the message/response that you are posting.

Photobucket and Flickr both can do all of that for you and all you have to do is copy and paste the HTML code into your message, but if you choose not to use either of them, there are options.
