Cleveland area nurseries?

I have to be in Cleveland next Wed/Thurs for work. I know there are several good places to go for hosta near there that I've never been to. Thursday is mostly free for me, so was hoping to do a visit or 2 then. Can anyone provide some recommendations - and are things open? I'm assuming their snow will have melted, since the quick 7" we got on Wednesday is gone already.

if you have all day .. and a car ....

head south to wades ....

or east to girard's ... which is more of a conifer place.. link below ....

both should be within 1.5 hours ....

i dont know what their status is in regard to spring .... call ahead ... make an appointment for personal service ....

Cahoons Nursery in Westlake also has a very large selection. That is along I90, west of Cleveland. They are on Detroit Rd in Westlake, Ohio.
However, with the weather they are getting, supplies may not be on display yet.

I realize that we now have a conflict with the Raleigh swap. I just wanted to put it out there that while I can't change the date at this point, it isn't going to hurt my feelings if anyone decides that they would rather go to the other swap. Our swap was really only meant to be a small friendly gathering and I just thought I would see if anyone from here wanted to come since I occasionally do a little online socializing here. So.. if your interests have changed.. it's really no big deal. Maybe next time! :)

I don't know of many places that sell nut trees in Georgia, however Johnsons Nursery is in Elijay. It is not organic but I also do not know of any fruit tree nurseries that are. Lawson's apples are in Ballground Georgia. Hidden Springs is in Tennessee. I really want to go there sometime! You can order such a wide variety but sometimes you must order a year ahead so they can graft for you. I know they have an herb seller at the Chattanooga farmers market and that some of the local farms sell vegetable plants.

I just finished day one of the pool dig.I started interviewing pool builders last November. I used the yellow pages, internet, asked the locals who they used for a pool builder and even knocked on one door to see their fence & pool installation . Most of those who appeared in the yellow pages were not listed on google. " You enter your address and do a search nearby "in ground pools" or gunite swimming pools or vinyl swimming pools" Since the area we live in has massive rocks and a high water table I was concerned over installing a vinyl liner or fiberglass. The dogs will be using the pool so gunite was the best choice. I feared that the fiberglass would break with the hydrostatic pressure. I did interview a vinyl liner pool installer . None of the liners would hold up to the nails of a one dog and I have three. The vinyl liner pool was only a few thousand less than the gunite. I also googled the pool installers names to see what popped up on the internet. In asking about building codes and permits the town hall officials gave me the names of their installers. One name had a clean rep up until the last four years. I also asked the pool supply stores for references. I interviewed four companies over 4 months. One private pool builder asked me to submit my pool equipment preference, pool location, pool size and tile selection. Although the research took me two weeks to compile, I knew I wanted pentair , an aggregate plaster, and size of pool. I was more comfortable in the pool interviews knowing the products . Check the internet for local Home shows. May seems to be the month where they host home improvement shows with roofers, generators, windows replacement, ID, pavers, any home professional one may need. YOu can also google pool products such as Pebble tech . They list pool builders who use their products. Look at Pentair. Jandy or Hayward and see if they also list pool outfitters in your zip code.

I recommend Cahoon's also- When I was at the AHS convention in Cleveland in 2005,we found Cahoon's, and hit the mother lode. Gorgeous plants, although we were there in June, and great variety. I bought about 18 plants, bare-rooted them and packed them in my luggage to fly home, except for one big one that went as a carryon. Three of us bought about 40 plants total. If you think it's too early for plants, go to the R&R Hall of Fame. It's all good!

I was not as happy as i had been with cahoons last year i think jon's daughter does not work there anymore and they won't be able to find someone to replace the great job she did with the hostas there imo

Unfortunately for you, you will be about a month early for the good hostas. Cahoon's is worth the visit for 2 reasons, even if the 500-600 varieties of hosta aren't on display yet. One reason is to see how much woody plant material can be stacked into a small area. They carry the usual, and an excellent variety of the highly unusual. The other reason is the owner, Rich. He is a national treasure, and I have faith that he will find someone good to replace Rachel in the hosta area!

You will also be a month early for the spring opening of the Ruh's Homestead Division, and to see anything at Bob Kuk's place (which is open by appointment only). Wade & Gatton is open but it will be a little early to see much there too. I would plan a trip back in June and spend a whole day there. You will need it to properly tour the display gardens as well as the sales area. Or wait till July if you want to see the daylilies.
