My counters are X and I would/would not get them again . . .
Comments (53)We are putting granite - Tropical Brown - in the kitchen in our new house. After having laminate counters for decades (ick), granite is going to be a new experience. I'm excited! Regarding heat resistance - I understand that while granite doesn't scorch, it is *possible* for it to crack. That could happen if you put a very hot pan on a previously undetected crack/weakened area. The extreme heat difference (very hot pan/cold counter) *could* cause the counter to crack - major damage. That sounds like it doesn't happen very often, but since it could happen - why take the risk? BUT - in my house, we microwave a fair amount. Would a dish coming from the MW to the countertop be hot enough to risk heat damage? Seems like dishes that have been in the MW, while hot, don't get as hot as a dish right from the oven/range. Or is it better to assume that if I don't want to touch something with my bare hands because it's too hot, that it shouldn't touch the granite, either? I've been told that Tropical Brown is practically bulletproof. Does that mean it's more heat resistant, or what?...See Moregranite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?
Comments (44)These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens....See MoreHelp! Not sure if I want dark granite counter tops

Comments (24)We are pulling the corner cabinets off the wall and will have a spacer in between the cabinet & the washing machine, it's just a little off on this floor planner program. We are meeting with our fabricator tomorrow and will see if we can move the layout on our 3 slabs of Taj Mahal so we can cover the laundry room and do something different in our master bath, which is where we were going to use the rest of the material that was left from the kitchen/prep/pantry. We had also planned to continue the wood into the laundry, but may look at a less expensive option to offset the counter top costs. The current kitchen counters have so many different little bump outs that I think they would be useless unless you had our exact layout and cabinets, so will likely donate to Restore. I appreciate all the responses!...See MoreRelated Professionals
