You might want to try www.rainbowgardens.com out of Vista, CA. They used to sell hoyas, that is where I bought my from years ago. I believe they still sell books on Hoyas.

Christine Burton is the ultimate hoya guru. She has a message board on Hoyas on msn.com called hoyas r us. You can do a lot of reading on hoyas from her posts.

The Rainbow Gardens website is www.rainbowgardens-nursery.com, which will receive a new redesign by the end of next week. Chuck Everson, who is one of the owners of Rainbow Gardens is the Vice President of the International Hoya Society.

There was a recent book released in the past month called: The World of Hoyas - A Book of Pictures by Dale Kloppenburg for $48.

Hhave you (or anyone else) seen this new Kloppenburg book? Is it any good? His prior Hoya book (Hoya Handbook), while OK for care & basics is known to have numerous mistakes in it? Just curious.

Here is Ms. Burton's review of the book. Do take it with a grain of salt only because there seems to exist a troubled Burton vs. Kloppenburg history.

I've seen the original book, and felt it was a good reference book for newbies (like me), even if there were the claimed mistakes. Supposedly, this is just an updated version of the book. I feel the price is slightly on the high side, probably due to the limited printed copies.

It's tough. There isn't much hoya printed material available, and when someone does put in the effort, it is ripped apart by critics.

I have the new Hoya book. I'm going to be completely honest about it, so please don't shoot me down.

Because of the ridiculous dollar to pound exchange rate, the amount the book cost me is probably about 3/4 of what you guys will pay for said book.

I am enjoying the book (well I love reading about hoyas, so that makes sense). However because part of my job involves spotting mistakes in the text, I get quite annoyed at the endless typos and errors left in. I respect Anne and Dale but I feel that by trying to leave as much of Dale's writing creates sections that are either completely irrelevant or sentences that refer to a picture that was obviously in the previous book that did not make it into this book. Also, a lot of the plant photos are out of focus. If you're trying to compare a plant that may not have flowered yet (even given that the identities of some of the hoyas may be incorrect) with a blurry photo, it's not going to help you much.
However, I have learnt about the anatomy of the hoya flower and the different names for the shape of the leaf, and that has been very helpful. And I'm still enjoying it, even if I am taking it with a pinch of salt.

I had borrowed the first book from friends for a year & had ample time to ready & study it, but by then I already knew much of my Hoya knowledge, having garnered it from here & other places & friends. I could spot some errors & questionmable IDs & I believe I too recall a couple of blurry pix.
