In the morning I went out in the garden and the pathway between two flower bads was full of snails passing from one side to another. I killed like 70 or so. After 50 I stop counting. Inspired by Randy's experiment with DE I did the same and went a bit further. I made a ring of DE and put a few snails in the middle. After they passed it with no problem I took them and put all of them with some leaves in a cup and I cover the cup with a piece of wood leaving a small opening for air. I wanted to see if they die from DE not from starving and lack of oxygen. They eat some of the leaves and are pilled up at the top of the cup. I checked them every day and give them fresh leaves. After 3 days they are still alive. I guess the DE is not working with my snails. pat

Kelly If you want to use 'metal' again to deter slugs, you need to use copper. You can make copper collars around top of the pot. You can even find rolls of it pre-cut in some garden centres. You can scatter some diatomaceous earth on soil surface, or even crushed egg shells may help. Anything with sharp surface will work. And saucers with bear as Jeff mentioned will work fast too. Just put them between the pots and snails will come to have drink & drown - they will die happy...lol. Rina

They are on your concrete on their way to and from. And may be living under it during the day where it's cool and damp. Treating with your Sluggo around the perimeters of your patio may be a good idea. Now till first hard freeze is a good time to be consistent with the baiting, trapping. If you get rid of as many adults as possible now into Fall (egg laying time) you can cut down on your numbers of slugs next Spring. Your pots on tables won't be safe from them, they can climb. Just yesterday I found a couple curled up in the drainage holes bottoms of pots on a tiered wire plant cart when repotting some cuttings. In this damp coastal climate I'm baiting about 11 months of the year, sometimes skipping January.

Thanks for all the comments and helpful hints. I put the cheap Walmart dry dog food out in the evening and kill the diners at about 9PM and maybe again at 10PM. By morning it is typically gone, even though it was often sprayed with the ammonia. As it will stay light later I will have to adjust the schedule. Recently my nightly kill dropped to 20 one night, so I skipped about a week. I will put out the dog food tonight. Ok this will sound gross, but they also like chewed up chocolate or chocolate cookies. The very weird thing is I had a liquidy chocolate that I deposited on the ground. I did this about 4:00PM, then went to a play. Came back and checked about 9PM. I thought that the way the chocolate dropped to the ground and worked it's way into the dirt that they would be working on the chocolate awhile. Surprise, the Chocolate was ALL GONE, not a trace in all 8 spots. Wish I saw what happened. I may try that again tonight.
