They're still blooming so I'll keep posting

I don't know how much longer the growing season can go on here but I am astonished that I haven't had a frost yet. It is almost OCTOBER and I

still have flowers to photograph, so I keep at it.

There's only two daylilies blooming now....good old

Veins of Truth is still pumping them out like its July

and World Premiere opened her second flower in the midst

of a downpour so I'll have to wait til she's more presentable. Photos are from the last couple days when it

was sunny & warm....today it's pouring but my plants are

loving it and I'm hoping those of you who need rain will get some too.

Viking Queen)

the colors on 'Veins of Truth' are more saturated now....

some of you asked for some foliage shots....

it isn't peak yet here and the best color won't be for

another week or two but the leaves are turning

rose 'Earth Song'

foxgloves on rebloom...they keep spreading by re-seeding

ZEUS, wants to go out and play...

so I take him out on his leash

I can't say it enough you have some spectacular roses and a stunning garden and of course you no I think the kitties are the absolute best.

Mike----When I lived in Fl I always had that problem. What I did to slow things down was stop feeding them the middle of Oct. Water the crap out of them Nov & Dec. Usually by Jan I had a lot of blind growth with just a few blooms on all the bushs. Didn't bother me to prune & strip all my bushs come Feb. One year I didn't prune or strip my bushs and they looked ugly and the blooms were pathetic all year. I never did that again. Now when I pruned, I NEVER pruned hard. Just cleaned and shaped the bushs. Even the ones I had on Dr. Huey responded very well.

I plan to make all my seedlings (that I can handle) flower, then force them for the following year, and give away. I already promised the first one for Cindeea, for she sent me seeds, the second one for Maria, for her seeds... And then the rest will go to Project Angelfood. Hopefully they will see it as a nice gesture and not an unnecessary burden. :o)

I'll add Dreamland to my list. I have more than I want to dig holes for. Why do I do that! Mary Magdalene is one of my new roses this year, but she doesn't look like yours. Maybe because she's been in a greenhouse. I ordered it because of your Easter photos. Probably just needs to settle in.

I have a wild kingdom going..and I would think Crows would make fast work of Mantids. I used to see Jays and Mockingbirds..but once cats started in this neighborhood,rare to see them. Possums would make a snack of them...they eat anything. Even the number of fence lizards has gone down..when they had showed up for a few years out of nowhere. Same for Garter Snakes come to think of it. Could be the wet weather 2 years in a row spread everybody out?

Your roadside roses are so fantastic!! I'm also loving the foxgloves- I should really try growing myself since my daughter is enchanted with the idea that they could be gloves for foxes, so always has to stop near them and quickly poke a finger in. I see your scarecrows are up and smiling- I love fall :)

You just made my Friday. The pictures are all stunning. I wish I could see everything in person, but since that's not possible, I'll settle for anything you post. I used to grow quite a few of the roses that you have. Pink Peace brought back a lot of memories--what a fragrance on that one!! Also had Pretty Jessica for awhile and quite a few of the other Austins, but like so many of them, they went to that Great Rose Garden In The Sky. The landscape photos with the water and the trees changing colors are magnificent. Maybe one day, I'll get to take a tour of New England and see the leaves change. As always, Zeus is such a fabulous fellow--he seems to have a glow about him in some of your pictures. Thanks for all the beauty. Avedon

The roses are just beautiful. Especially Rhode Island Red. What a stunner! Beaufiful sceanery along your neck of the woods. That lake is just lovely.

THANK YOU for all your nice comments on my photos. We had another unseasonably warm day today after the rain of yesterday and the plants are loving it and are being tricked into thinking
this can go on forever. They are in for a shock when it starts acting like New England weather in October. As am I!
I never have gotten used to the cold even though I have lived here all my adult life...(I was born in south Georgia and lived there as a child).
Cindy, no Zeus doesn't mind the leash although he isn't used to being outside so everything spooks him....the falling autumn leaves or a car going down the road will send him into a panic. I am glad that the outside scares him, though. I have lost too many cats to the coyotes and fisher cats in the woods that surround my yard. Lily & Nemo are too old to change their ways, having been outside cats all their lives and everyday I worry they won't make it home after their excursions in the woods.

I sure hope you keep posting gorgeous pictures liike this,these roses sre all gorgeous, love them pink roses. quietness is such s beauty . and Brides Dream is too.Love your scarecrows.and the roses by the road is gorgeous, toopoor SEUS dont get to run and play outside or to climb a tree, but he looks happysif if i was to put a leash on my cat, she would pull her neck offGuess they dont mind them, if they hsve stsrted out as tiny kittrns with them.Hr is so pretty.snd i am heppy to see him sgain.thsnk you for posting more besutifuk pictures, zi slesyd injoy them so much

Luuuv those rose shots missy!! Gorgeous as always. Its so funny seeing Zeus on a leash. lol! He really does behave nicely with it around his neck, or so it seems in the pic. I luv that Pretty Jessica. Keep deciding whether to order it or not! Your scenic view is just stunning. How lucky you are!! See ya, Judy

Beautiful roses! They are blooming so well for you, despite the cool temps. Zeus is such a charmer, and he looks great in the red collar. Does he have extra toes? I used to have a little black cat I trained to walk on a leash. She was spooked by outside sounds too.
