I would mot say that this is a difficult Hoya to grow but it does take time to grow into a plant from the cutting stage. The leaves are very hard and rigid so they can be broken off quite easily and the new vines are also quite thin and they seem sensitive to drying out if the potting media is not kept moist enough. If you are afraid that this Hoya might be difficult don't be, you do very well with your others so I am sure you can handle this one. Patience is key but even a smaller plant blooms, mine took a year or maybe a little more to bloom from a cutting and although it is not a nice full plant yet it blooms enough to keep me happy.
Oh thanks Mikey!!! I thought it was one of those very difficult hoyas to grow. I have to have a rooted cutting because I'm too scared to root them. I rooted my kentiana only because I had to. I didn't pay attention when I ordered it. On the other hand, people say it is the easiest to root and it must be, because I was successful!!! It is growing very nicely now.
So if I get a small rooted plant, I should definitely be okay. Slow growing is a bonus; space is an issue with most of us and I'm no exception.
First I must locate and buy a Kenejiana 'Nugget'. I MUST!!! It makes my heart go pitter patter!!!
Hi Tish, I love H. caudata and so will you! Like Mike said it is very slow to grow from a cutting. I received mine with three leaves, and one broke off in transit. It took almost six months before it put out a couple of leaves, only to fall off a short while later...finally after several more months later it started growing and mine is finally starting to look like a plant(although still a small plant), at least I have several leaves now,lol... I really like the leaves of this one. It is pretty easy to grow but Mike is so right...you need lots of patience till it gets established, unless you're lucky enough to find a mature plant somewhere. Like you...space is an issue for me as well...so I'm really liking the plants that don't get too large like the Pubicalyx. I also don't let this one get too dry and I give it bright light and some filtered sun if I can.
Actually Pug, I was thinking of bidding on one, but it jumped from $12.50 to $19.49 over night. Its leaves are just about like H. Sigillatis, but a different shape and I have H. Sigillatis on order. I was just trying to find out if it was difficult to grow before I even considered bidding on it and then finding out I wouldn't be able to handle it. I'll just watch and see what comes along on ebay.
