Gold standard has more of a tendancy to throw a white streak. If it is a possible sport? I have some here that always have a white streak, never turn into anything. I don't mean to belittle your knowledge, but I will say when both plants are young they can be easily confused. I would expect the source to have several intentional mix ups.

Countrygarden is right. I have a Gold Standard sport,that I have named Gold Frost,because it has an additional white edge at the margin,outside of the green margin. I have had many throw a white streak in the center,but they have never done anything stable. Here is a pic of Gold Frost,before I separated it from the parent plant. Phil

Phil, it looks to me like that leaf is showing early symptoms of HVX. The tissue collapse and a couple spots with vein markings in the upper part of the leaf. Let us know what it looks like when it emerges this spring.

Sorry to disapoint you naysayers,but it came up fine last year,with no HVX! It has eyes showing right now,but it is a long way from unfurling a leaf. Phil

That is also the first thing I noticed; the collapse. I thought I would hold my tongue for a bit, with the sensitivity surrounding the issue. An early frost can also show signs similiar to this. I do value your picture resource and your knowledge of hosta. Not many can throw a photo like that, so soon pertaining and so precise to the topic, it is valuable. You know my position on "denial". I am not claiming it is infected, but some testing may be in order? That is up to you. No need to be tender about things, others are just offering concern and knowledge. That is protection for all of us.

Your picture posting: Are you a member of the Hallson forum?, if not there is a test area for picture posting. There you can play around. There is also a topic area exclusively for hosta hvx,etc. You can also shop with 'confidence'.

In reguards to the forum, I think it is better organized, nice features, and 'safe'. I seem to have problems here at G.W.

As far as the photo - shrug - looks like HVX to me too, but if he doesn't care about it why should I? It's his plant and his property.

Thanks Alexa for the info. I will go ahead and set up the account now and then take the pic. when the sun comes up. Please don't laugh at my ignorance, but I have only used my printer/scanner to download pictures from my digital camera. It sends them to my picture folder in my documents, and then I can send them in emails etc. Can I download them to my pics/documents, and then move them to photobucket? Countrygarden, you could be right. I didn't pay close attention, I was so happy to see that the hosta was actually varigated like it should be (sometimes wally world hostas turn out all green regardless of what they say they are) I assumed that it was indeed Pauls glory. I will do a closer inspection when the sun comes up and maybe some of the experts on here can tell me if it is indeed gold standard. Now that I am previewing this message I see that under this box there is and place where you can put an optional link and the name of the new link.
