Is This a Real Stella D'Oro or Stella De Oro?

I have some daylilies I've had for over 8 years. They were sold to me as Stella De Oro's or Stella D'Oro, I can't quite remember. But there were Stellas, and I'm quite sure of that much. The thing is, all of my daylilies have a clearly marked "throat" in a darker color. Now I've just been all over the web, and the only images I can pull up for either Stella De Oro or Stella D'Oro show a completely yellow flower -- no marked throat! Does anyone have any idea what I have? My daylilies look like the photos, except they are taller and have that marked throat.

Any help would be much appreciated! MacThayer

I think you are thinking of Black Eyed Stella.
It's a yellow Stella daylily with a marked throat.

I found an article the other day that I thought was interesting. Linkage below... And just kind of thinking out loud here.... I have heard a few things regarding plants not blooming and options for solutions but I can't confirm any of it really. I was told to withhold water for established drought tolerant plants. I have done this with Gerber Daisies and have it work but haven't tried it on anything else. I was also told to use a fertilizer that had lower nitrogen (?)levels. And... I have also heard that Stella will bloom one good time and then you get random blooms throughout the season but if you cut them back after the first bloom they will grow back quickly and bloom again before the end of the season. This is my first year with Stellas but I have had some other daylilies for a while that look like they may be Happy Returns. If I cut the stem on the spent flowers all the way back as opposed to just pulling the flowers off they tend to have more blooms. Here is a link that might be useful: Stella Info

What Betsy said. You'll enjoy them, they're excellent performers. Even never fertilizing, I have to quarter mine every season now else they reach gigantic proportions. Once the blooming starts, it's a daily explosion.

Hey, they look just like my Stellas! I divided some of mine last year (just by shovel into fourths), and spruced up the soil, but they still look so-so. There were a couple of empty spots left, though, and the Stella bits I missed put up little plants that look like a million. I still like Stella. I'll always have her! I saw a mass planting at a bank that mixed Stella and Happy Returns with some unknown near white and it looked divine in May, like ripples of sunshine. I have the Stella Supreme for my lighter yellow, and some Gentle Shepard and maybe even Land of Cotton for a bit more height texture. My big plan is to take one clump of Stella and divide her into very small double/triple fans, and put in my other lighter ones in bigger clumps. Then people can drive by my house and say-hey, that looks just like that bank in Kentucky! LOL!

I would also say you have Black Eyed Stella. Flower alittle bigger maybe than stella and scapes might be taller. I have Black eyed Stella here myself and its a nice flower.

Yes, of course, she's a Black Eyed Stella! I just checked out the photos in the Hortiplex. No doubt about it. Thanks for your replies! I have some seeds from her that I'm going to try to germinate, and I wanted to make sure I had the correct parent plant, although I'm quite sure two of the plants are a cross between the Black Eyed Stella and Happy Returns. The plants are much shorter, the flowers smaller, the "throat" is lighter in color, and they have a much longer bloom time. So that should be interesting: Black Eyed Stella X Happy Returns X who knows what? But that's all the fun! Many thanks for your replies when my brain decides to stop functioning! LOL! MacThayer
