Maryott's Order - Holy Cow! (pics)

I had a Maryott's order in a holding pattern and it arrived today... I was waiting for the weather to cool...

Man, do they ship some nice fans or what? And the bonuses? WOWEE.

First, I thought this was cool - might be a little geeky of me, but I don't know... looked cool!

The Box:

I bought:

Hi Ho Silver (had been coveting this one REALLY BAD)- it was the "smallest" number of fans - gee, only two!! GIANTS :o)

Navy Blues (three double fans) - which turned out to be 10 fans:

Sea of Cortez

Mildred Mitchell

Lavender Fantasia - which were the smallest fan size (oh so small)!! NOT.

I bought during the Special, and my free special bonus was Jerry Nettles (which is a HUGE chunk of fans):

AND if that wasn't enough, Bill added THREE other bonuses!

Palace Garden Beauty (which I had, but immediately died after shipping from Marietta's - they are replacing, so I guess I will have a large clump of this beauty)

And a red - Velvet Eyes (Oh Barb....)

Here they are all together - they were so big I had to use the sink instead of a bowl!

I too, received my fall order from Maryott's today. Huge fans and lots of them, as always.
Besides the two advertised weekly bonus' of John Peat, and Elusive Charm, Bill also sent gifts of World Premier, Terry Lyninger, Social Graces, and Something Splendid. Now thats what I call a bonus!
The ones I had ordered were Mildred Mitchell, Candy Borders,
Edge Of Your Seat, Dress Blues, Wren's Song, and Enticing Elegance. I already had WP, and TL from previous orders from them, but I will just add the extras to my "sale bed".
Don't you just love Maryott's?

That always happens to me too Nate-especially when I order directly from a hybridizer. Sometimes I think I should just ask them what they recommend and go from there. I always appreciate them sending me something great though! I also have the pot getto from bonuses this year. Don't know where they are going to go. I didn't get everything I wanted moved this year due to the crazy weather we had. Sounds like Maryotts are great to order from. Too bad I am not in the US to place an order. You guys have so many more choices-Not that I don't have enough here to get in trouble with!:-) Enjoy!!!

Yes, Maryott's is one of the places you can use your AHS voucher for. And if you want to, you can just get the $35 worth of plants and all you pay for is shipping. I just had to have Century Club and so I splurged a little. I think it's worth it to join AHS though. Barb, sounds like you are staying really busy with your dad. My father had heart problems as well and I took him to and from several doctor's appointments as well so I know exactly what you are going through. I hope his surgery goes well this Friday. Jan, I am glad to hear that Century Club is doing well for you. We are in the same zone so it should do good here too. It looked so pretty from the picture Maryott's had on their site. Bill also told me that Hearts of Fire is a really nice red daylily and one that he would highly recommend. He said it has a really bold color that holds up and it has a velvetly looking appearance. There is only one more this year that is on my wish list and after that I will wait until next spring to buy anymore. I think.... I have been wanting to get Gilded by Grace. Mary Gaskins is the hybridizer and I called her and she told me this one is a really good performer and holds it's color well. She is getting ready to retire so she is going to hand over her daylilies to a friend of hers who is in the daylily business but she is still selling for now. Anyway, Gilded by Grace is not cheap so I don't know if I will be able to get it before next year or not. We will see..... Dianne

Well, I am just so excited I am beside myself here. Wikipedia (reference linked below) has a list of cities which share a range of latitudes around this globe of ours. I was looking for the ones which share a little bit above Lat 30North. On our forum, this includes ILoveToGrow/Paula over in Jacksonville FL, I think Santa in Austin? And Mobile Alabama, myself. Guess what places are at similar latitudes in other places? CHINA.....whoopee, for the fragrant hosta growers....and with nothing else like elevation to consider, I name the other places...for us folks in the extreme climate found at Lat 30N. Alexandria Egypt Shanghai China Ludhiana India Chandigarh India Chingdu in Sichuan Province China Wuhan China Basra Iraq Hangzhou China Multan in Pakistan Not quite a list of well known places, but at least we have China as a native habitat for hosta. These places are all just a bit above Latitude 30 North. Check out other places around the globe which match your location. Fascinating. Completely out of space so no newbies for me this year----previous ones are establishing nicely, although I think I may have lost some of the (luckily cheaper) ones that I tried in the ground due to our unusually cold winter. Mainly I grow in very large pots as the ground where I live is VERY poor---dry and stony and only a few inches deep on top of a stone shelf so only especially hardy ones go in the ground for lanscaping alongside hardy geraniums. I have LAKE EFFECT, the first year I was not impressed at all, I thought the colour was FOUL, but last year it was really nice and is coping well with British weather (much better than I am) so it is one worth keeping for a few year even if you don't like it initially.

Haha! And then the post office had to add that $0.18 stamp in the corner, how funny! Maybe Marotts had a bunch of butterfly stamps they were dying to get rid of...

Jerry nettles is truly beautiful.--Jan , you will have to tell us how Edge of your seat turns out--I love that one too! Is it not one of Rick Yost? I received an order from Rick and the fans were super--He also sent some very nice gifts.

Cole....yes it is by Yost....can't wait to see it bloom. I'll post photos when it does. I love your take on the "DL addiction" and I agree. :)

Fairysoap is so funny with the picture of the box ROFL. I know how you feel though, I got my first Stamile order this spring for my birthday in March and I was bouncing off the walls singing "Happy Birthday to Me"!!! It is so exciting to get things in the mail, especially things that you know are going to keep on giving year after year.
Cole, you are just too funny with your daylily addiction. I have been noticing all your bids on the LA ROFL. Everytime I go to look at something there is your name as a bidder. LOL

I dislike deer!!!! now I got that off my chest!!!

Dot you caught me!!!! I'm soooo hooked it's sad!!! My dog show friends think I've gone lunie and I have. Lunie for Daylilys!! Dl are just the PERFECT flower and plant! Not to many I don't like---the forms,color and their whole being is just "way past kool" I just bought one name that! ---on top of everything some have pedigrees too!

Hi All - I got a very nice email from Mrs. Marilyn Maryott, and I guess it was the PO that had all the extra stamps. But, it was just cool. They are all planted.

Cole - sorry about the deer! :o(

Well, if anyone forgot to order, its too late for this year as they are done shipping. I am sure all the work of digging and shipping gets very tireing fast. All I had to do was plant my daylilies all year and I thought that was a lot of work!!!

Did you e-mail and ask about the stamps or did Marilyn see the Gardenweb posts?

NYRita - Marilyn saw this post. I agree... I have been digging holes like a madwoman - red ant bites and all! But something about it is so fulfilling...digging in the dirt and watching something turn into a beautiful flower.

I'm with you--playing in the dirt is grand fun for me--I think i'ts the best way to stay conected to this crazy world we live in. My son said I was talking to the DLs while I was working---he is right.... I was..... it's kinda like praying....peaceful
