Hoya carnosa 'Holliana'is an carnosa cultivar that is small leaved and has a very compact growth habit.
H. lacunosa, bella, heuschkeliana, curtisii,.... are species that are smaller leaved and do not have so much of a twining growth habit as carnosa does.

Hoya kerrii (the Heat-Leaf Hoya) is even wilder than carnosa. Huge, thick stems that can't really be controlled. At least with carnosa, you can keep putting the vines back into the main plant so it maintains a large but "together" form. With kerrii, you can't do much with the stiff stems except let them go where they may and keep them pruned. I love it nonethless. The other warning about kerrii is not to put it above carpet because the flowers weep the most god-awful dark red sap. It's an utter mess while it blooms. (Still worth it, though!)

There are lots of small Hoyas that are trailers and not viners. One of my favorites is tsangsii, with the cutest little red flowers. Lacunosa (as P.C. said) is another good one, with tiny but powerfully fragrant flowers. (Mine's bursting with buds & blooms right now..) Wayetti and kentiana (I can't tell them apart), polyneura (which grows more out and down), obscura, multiflora, incurvula, shepherdii.

Well....., I am having second thoughts about the Kerry. From the photos I have seen on the forum, I liked especially the leaves.
All others you mentioned I have never heard of. What would be a good resource to buy them from?

One more question: How do you probogate the Hoya? (I suppose all varieties grow the same)
When you say the vines can be put back into the main plant could you please be more specific?

What I meant was to take the vines and slip them back into the main part of the plant, so that it keeps inter-twining within itself. You can do that with carnosas and other vining varieties that have slender stems. Not so with kerrii and obovata and other "hard-stem" varieties...

Most Hoyas can be propogated in water before being moved to soil. This time of year is ideal. Just put cuttings in a jar of water and wait a few weeks. Once roots have formed (maybe 1/2" to 1"...), plant in soil and keep slightly moist until you see new growth. (Not soggy, mind you...) When new growth appears, that means the roots have established and you can water normally, which is when the soil is somewhat dry.

Are you here in the states or elsewhere in the world? Knowing this will help us give you advice one where to find the less common Hoyas.

Thank you Denise. Will propobate from the old plant. B.t.w., have you ever tried keeping some runners in a lg. flask of water? I put some several years ago and they bloom year after year - a most unusual phenomena! Mine are in an old crock-type container. It says "Rhine Perle" on it. I suppose it used to be an old wine flask. Would the stone have anything to do with re-blooming, or can it be done in just about anything?
