You will be okay with your current setup. Hoya lacunosa is very easy to bloom. 6-12" above the plant is ideal, but I've had bulbs just a few inches above my lacunosas before, so really as long as you give them adequate clearance so they don't reach up into the bulb with their new vines, you'll be fine. They are a lot more light-intensity-tolerant than they look. I moved mine over to my western balcony doors and they love it there. As for variety of lacunosa⦠now you are speaking to a topic close to my heart! If you get them from a BBS or a nursery you are going to get one of the following: (plain) lacunosa, lacunosa 'Snow Caps', lacunosa 'Ruby Sue', lacunosa 'Royal Flush.' Of those, 'Snow Caps' is my favorite, but it's really a matter of preference - they are all attractive. Are those my favorite lacunosas, though? Nuuuuuuuu not even close. I really like the clones with teeeeeeeeny tiny leaves. They look so delicate in a window, like an ornate paper cutting. SRQ Hoyas has a good variety and two of my favorites are: Hoya lacunosa 'Langkawi Island' Cutting (SRQ 3077) Hoya lacunosa 'Thai Clone' Cutting (SRQ 3047) Hoya lacunosa 'Tove' Cutting (SRQ 3026) is very attractive if you like large leaves and flowers (for lacunosa). Now, this is a more impractical suggestion, but since you brought it up, Epiphytica has some wicked cool lacunosas. (longest leaves) (smallest leaves) And then floating around from the Liddle collection there is also the very pretty Hoya lacunosa Poonsak (IML 1648)

I have several Hoyas. A coupl new starts I purchased a month ago and a larger plant I have had several years that I started from rooted cuttings off my sisters plant. I live in noth Indiana so I have to be very careful about putting them outside. My older plant has grown slowly and I repotted it recently because it was on a very small pot. We got a cat which would not stay out of the window I was using and was stressing me and my plants out! Since I only have the one window I can use and the cat adopted it I decided to try LED grow lights which offer red blue yellow and full spectrum light along with a timer a dimmer and a choice of what spectrum you want. All the hoya which include a rope hoya, a tri color krimson queen and the regular one that I had which is hoya carnosa with the white and pink center star flowers have all started growing sensing out vines and leaves. I noticed the leaves are growing bigger and faster so it must work ok!😁 I recently repotted a verigated strand of pearls and added it to my little light party. I’m hoping it does well also!

I use retrofitted t8 LED fixtures in the cold seasons.I have 4 of them, 4 lights per fixture. They are 6500K daylight. They are on a timer set for 14 hours in the late spring and fall (mid spring through early fall, mine are outside) and 12 hours in winter. As long as the hoya vines don't touch the lights, they are happy in these conditions. That being said, some of mine need more drastic differences in heat/lighting in the winter, to bloom. They get normal household conditions in a West window in the winter.

Even though it is really weird i for some reason turn my grow lights on at night while i am at home. I turn them off before i leave for work. During the day when the lights are off it is obviously not dark in the room because i only have Venetian blinds and no curtains. So the room can be pretty bright compared to how dark it is outside. Could this effect how the hoyas grow?
