Hi Chris, I don't have any experience with Poinsettia cuttings, I tried it a few times, and it didn't work for me. Others might have success tips for you. As far as the after Christmas deals, if I had to "guess"? I would say yes...your chances are very good at getting great deals on Christmas plants after Christmas. Especially with the economy being so bad. I would guess some people aren't going to be buying Christmas plants and would opt for something else "more useful" as far as presents/decorating goes. Even when the economy was good, I always get great deals, at least 50% of the day after or sometimes a day before Christmas. I have purchased Points or C. Cactus at half price with a pretty good selection. But then again the market and the area you live in makes a LOT of difference...Just my opinion. Merry Christmas everyone!!

Lovely pictures! Hope my Gazania grows up to be just like yours LOL! I have a few buds, but can't tell what color I'll get just yet. The only good basil this year are a few Red Rubin in containers and one in the ground, the rest of them and Siam Queen are pitiful :( As for the Lavender it's really hard to say since all the English Lavender have the same type foliage and bud/flower color can vary a bit when seed propagated. Mountain Valley Growers and their experience with these plants state that in their experience 'Hidcote' is not as heat or drought tolerant. Ever thing I could find says that it is much smaller than 'Munstead' at about 12" I have some currently have 'Munstead' and 'Vera' planted but couldn't tell you which is which because I can't remember that far back what was planted where! And as stated above flower color can vary with seed propagation (that includes commercial seed). I have a few measured at 57 to 60" across in bloom on 2 of my not-so-hard pruned ones!! I think these might be 'Vera' because I'm pretty sure 'Vera' grows much larger than 'Munstead'. Normally I prune most of them hard in spring (winter damage or not) because they are in mixed borders, lightly when harvesting wands (abt. 2 to 3" sets of leaves in) and again in fall after 2nd round of blooms. These 2 I left go to seed for the finches/Chickadees last year and only cut them back far enough in April to remove the wands. So really this is the first time I've seen them so HUGE! I enjoyed watching the birds flock in too feed on them and am letting them go to seed again this year...another bonus is many self-sown babies too :)

Hi Keith, First of all, take care about the yellow Pinus strobus seedling, make sure that it's not standing to wet and create some shadow, then everything will be fine. Please keep us informed about this one. The Picea jezoensis 'Chitosa Nana' isn't a P. jezoensis indeed but a P. glehnii. The cultivar name is not right written and is 'Chitosu-maru', which looks almost the same. In my opinion it also looks very simular to the 'J.D. Dwarf' like you can see at the photo. Picea jezoensis 'J.D. Dwarf' Your Picea jezoensis 'Landis' looks also like a P. glehnii cultivar to me.

This is very frustrating, J! NOAA doesnÂt have you on their map. I found PinecliffeÂnow if thatÂs on the map, why isnÂt Nederland? And I found East Portal, and clicking on where you should be I found something called CaribouÂwhich IÂve never heard of! Anyway, theyÂre showing you around freezing for the next few nitesÂlowest theyÂre showing is 28. If theyÂre covered, your tomatoes should be fine, but when your cover gets wetÂorÂheaven forbidÂcovered with snow, just be sure it isnÂt weighting the plants down so much that it breaks them off. If you got your stakes in and the tarp is over the stakes, no worry. And just leaving them covered for a few days isnÂt going to hurt them either. Just think! Tomorrow you might be playing in the snow instead of the dirt! Deb, if you can anchor a bed sheet down so it wonÂt blow away, that will protect your tomatoes and peppers. And if you run a sprinkler all nite, that should work too. Air freezes faster than water, so if everything is wet and it doesnÂt get too far below freezing, it should protect them. It seems to me a sheet would be easierÂIF it doesnÂt blow away. I got my grass cut today too, but no blowing dust around here at least! Just the pollen from the pine tree! And I got the rest of the veggies mulched with the clippings to help keep the water in. I can almost hear the wind slurping the water up from my soil! One of my two bird feeder poles blew over! It wasnÂt a "regulation" post! It was just an old, rusty post I found that had a hook on top. Was gonna replace it anyway, but now I guess itÂs sooner rather than later. Oh, well! A new one will look better! WindÂs blowing like crazy out here right now, but so far no other plant damage besides the one rose cane. Have lots of the neighborÂs cottonwood branches in my back yard!
