since were already talking about one of my cats on another thread,I thought it would be interesting to see what each others furry,four legged family members look like!!! This is Gizmo,he's not quite 4 years old and he's my MAIN man!!! Mess with him and then we have a problem. I seriously think I would cause someone physical harm if they bothered this cat.

here's another shot of him taken last year. He' weighs in at about 19lbs and is quite the lover!!! he loves to give kisses and will do it as many times as you can say "give me a mooch"

This is his sister Sara ( no blood relation) she's about 6 months older than he is and weighs in at about the same,19 lbs. She is not the most photogenic cat in the world and it is quite difficult to capture a decent picture of her. This one happened quite by accident. I was sitting at the computer when she jumped up into my lap and just stared at me. I happened to have my camera phone on me and snapped this pic!!

In this one she is laying in MY bed on her back,legs gaped wide open,tail swung to the side with a look on her face as if to be saying " by the way if you're on your way to the kitchen,how about bringing me a cold beer on the way back"!!

Your kitties are cuties! And apparently big cats, because they don't look particularly fat - 19 lbs. is big for a cat! I got my kitties a year ago this last summer as itty-bitties (just right at 6 weeks old, I think...) They're sisters and decided right from day one that Lucy, our German Shepherd, was their "mommy". So here are all three girls taking a nap(with Lucy's stuffed bunny)...

Bella is the one closest to Lucy, and Pearl is the long haired kitty.

I don't have kittys anymore but heres my furry friends. Sister on the left Lucy in the middle (the biggest baby of all) and Rossie on the right. Lucy plays mamma to the pugs too, like Denise's Lucy does. DH says they aren't dogs, , , they're pugs. . . he also tells me all the time he wants to come back as one of my pets (I tell him he already is. . . lol)

Yes, it's a tinder box. I live near Wichita Falls. Our average year to date rainfall is a little over 20 inches. We've had a little over 3 inches so far. Combine that with temps between 105 and 112 and, well... At least it has cooled off the last few days. To make this a lawn thread, I have basically given up on my lawn this year. My front yard never greened up. I've watered the back yard but a $450 water bill slowed that down. A few weeks ago we were sitting by the pool on a Saturday afternoon and smelled smoke. My neighbor's lawn was on fire. I got to it barely in time to save the wooden fence. Had it been a week day when all were at work, well, I don't want to think about it. We have no idea how the fire started. A cigarette butt comes to mind but this is a small residential street with little traffic except for the residents.

Thats why they put me on it for the fibromyalgia and the nerve pain from my neck. Hasn't helped the nerve pain so much but it has with the fibromyalgia. I feel much better after sleeping good. I am supposed to start taking a dose in the morning also after the first week and I am thinking no way can I stay awake and function. I actually fell asleep sitting straight up on the way home from Tulsa and I could never sleep in the car before even laying down no matter how exhausted I was. I totally missed going through Dallas and that usually makes me a nervous wreck. I woke up with my mouth hanging wide open and thought eew gross, thats never happened before, lol. Hubby said one minute I was singing and the next I was snoring, lol. Be careful and don't overdo things and hurt yourself or there will be nobody to tend to you. I wish she would move in with you to cut out some of your work load keeping up two houses. Take care of yourself and I am praying for and thinking of you and your family. Hugs back, Kristy

Thank you for the kind words Ladies … and I haven’t even posted the new ones from this year yet !!! Deb - I have in fact dived into the proverbial pond of seed growing. After the splash I made at the BADITC auction I had better, right ? But, I’m saving that unveiling for a separate post. Stay tuned. :) Dearest Mocc - Was it you who ended up with that variegated bletilla ??? I almost went for that last year, but held off since I wasn’t sure if I would have the space (which I didn’t). Also, bletilla do NOT overwinter in pots at all, or at least they didn’t for me. I had some of the standard striata in a pot from 2012 and this spring in 2013 I finally decided to dump it when there was no emergence by June. Sure enough the pseudobulbs had rotted to mush. I still have two patches in the back yard gardens that are faring so-so. I have plans to move them this spring to the amended front beds, currently they’re competing with some major maple roots. They haven’t bloomed in the last two years so I know I need to move them or they will eventually be strangled out ... and we can't have that, now can we ?!?! Bkay - I’m glad you enjoyed ! Always a pleasure to share. I'm surprised being in Texas you haven't tried some yourself .......... enable. :p Trudy - Indeed, I am definitely NOT looking forward to the culling, but it seems a necessary evil when growing seeds for streaked breeders. But, I finally got my login sorted out over on the HSG forums (thank you again Bob), so you shall see me posting over there soon with progress. And that leaves me with Miss Jo - Goodness Gurl, you type about as much as ‘Long-Winded Ludi’. I LOVE IT !!! What a wonderful story about your experience in Beamsville (listen to me, like I know where that is). I would love for my partner to build me a greenhouse, but he knows that would in essence be Pandora’s Box. For now, he’s content to leave me with my room in the attic. Honestly though, I don’t have enough time working a full time job to take care of what I have NOW, let alone taking on more. What did Ken say earlier this year … ah … hope springs eternal. :) You leave me with some opened ended questions, so I will take the easy one first. I counted pictures, and I believe #17 was this one: Its fancy name is psychopsis mendenhall and the common name is butterfly orchid. Although if you google ‘butterfly orchid’ you get all kinds of garbage, so google the latin name. :) Interesting that you would choose this one, as it is the only orchid of mine that is in bloom pretty much all year. It puts out a flower stalk way high above its leaves, and then will only form one bud at a time. Once that first bud opens and the flower eventually fades and falls off, it will then put a new bud out at the same meristem. It takes anywhere from 2-3 weeks for one bud to mature, but then the flower is open for about as long. So I am basically 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off with a flower. It is one of the best orchids I’ve ever grown. I confess I don’t keep mine watered as much as I should and my temps/humidity are all over the place. If I was more of a perfectionist I could probably get it to throw two of three more flower stalks. Then they would open at different intervals, subsequently allowing a flower to be viewed at all times. Usually at orchid shows they sell them with at least two or three flowers stalks. Mine presently has two, but the original has stopped blooming. Here is a picture I took today to illustrate this. You can obviously see the flower on the left :) and the multiple re-blooming that occurred on the older stalk to the right. I only had both of them open once, and then after that the first stalk stopped blooming. That was back sometime in June though. I can’t quite bring myself to cut it off … keep hoping it will maybe start blooming again … there is that spring of eternal hope again. :p Oh, also, to give you a time table, the original stalk kept re-blooming for almost two full years before the second stalk came up and ‘took over’. Sort of like a changing of the guard, now that I think about it. :) As for your second question - what would be a preferable orchid for you to try, given the limited environment you described ? That is a tough call, honestly, and I have given a lot of thought to it. I think the most ‘forgiving’ would be a phaleonopsis. However, I do not have any experience with growing orchids on windowsills and don’t know that I would if I had a south facing window after the success I’ve had growing under lights. But I understand that most people are far more practical than me, so I stand with my suggestion of phaleonopsis. :) Orchids need enough light both to sustain life and re-bloom. But light is only half the battle. To get a Phal to rebloom, you need to have a noticeable drop in temps from a consistent couple of months of warm summer weather. Ya know what ?!?!? I JUST wrote a four page breakdown for Steve to help him with his little Phal about a month ago (still waiting on those pictures Steve). Email me through the GardenWeb, include your return email in the body of the message, and I will be happy to send it to you. And to anyone else who may be interested. It is basically a four page primer from MY OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCE … I break a lot of rules, so I have to make that disclaimer since any ‘real’ orchid enthusiast would run away screaming if they saw my setup and my methodologies. But hey, a picture is worth a thousand words, so I guess I have been doing something right these last 4 years. ::grins:: But seriously, shoot me an email and I will send you a copy of the word document. Orchids are not impossible, but they are fussy and highly specialized. But that does not mean you can’t have your own success. Take a dive, the water is fine. :) ::enablenablenablenable:: Ludi

I agree with Colleen, do not interact with her whatsoever & if people believe her, who cares? If they know you, they won't believe it. If they believe it, they don't know you or know you very well or aren't much of a friend. I know it's not the same but when I was first dating DH, BM was nice to my face & talked crap behind my back. I tried to be nice to her because I THOUGHT she was a nice person. When we moved in together, she began talking crap to DH about me & my kids. She was not nice to my face but somewhat cordial. I was cordial with her & tried to be nice. After we got married, fangs came out & she was nasty directly to me. I had never done anything to her, never said anything about her, except to tell DH that he did not have to worry about her keeping SD from him if he didn't do whatever she said. I told DH he had rights that she couldn't take away without a court order. (Every so often if DH didn't want to go along with her plans, she would threaten to take SD away from him so he would do what she wanted.) So, eventually I decided no contact is best. She wrote stuff about me on facebook, using my name. I reported it & it was deleted. I also sued her & was given a conditional judgment (only because the Judge did not want to get in the middle of a "family law" case & thought it should have been resolved with an order in the family court because SD was invovled.) Unfortunately, SD is much like her mom and very loyal to her mom. Thinking back to when I met her, she did not like me. I chalked a lot of it up to "she's a kid" or "she needs more attention from daddy" so I back off & give them space. I've done things for her, been there for her, defended her, taken care of her, held her hand when her mom refused to come to her foot surgery & she was scared.... I feel like I've done everything I possibly can to show her I care for her & she can trust me/count on me, but during it all, she would still go to her counselor, teachers, her mom, both grandma's and now DH & complain about me... make up lies in some circumstances or exxagerage the truth or tell only the part of the story that makes me look bad.... all to get sympathy & attention. I have started to believe there are some people out there that cannot help it. They need the attention they get or they get something out of it by doing what they do. In your situation, I think she gets a sick pleasure from the drama she creates. It gives her a high of excitement and when you respond, she enjoys that. It keeps it going. If everyone ignores her & blocks her, it will take the fun out of it for her. If you have to see her, do your best to remain calm, non responsive and cordial. If you can muster "friendly", do it. By that, I don't mean be friends with her & share secrets or girl talk, but smile & be cheery... more than cordial. Most people can see it for what it is and even if they are fooled at first, if they are around her long enough, they will catch on... just as you did. She isn't going to change until she WANTS to change and she may even need professional help to get there.

okay Tish now after seeing the pics I am in total agreement with your neighbors you are the local "crazy cat lady down the street"!!!!

all joking aside those are some very lovely ladies and fine handsome gentlemen!!! I have to admit though that when I saw the pic of Cooper and Mia Sophia I had to regain my composure before I could finish typing anything. They are both beautiful cats but Cooper just reminds me of the kid on the front of MAD magazine for the world!!! I must say I haven't had a laugh like that in a while!! I just keep sitting here and going back to poor Coopers picture and laughing!!! Mia sorta looks like George Clooney!!

Honestly though you have some really beautiful cats. How well do they all get along??

Gizmo and Sara are best friends but they do have their moments when Giz likes to be in control and he does let her know it by biting her as hard as he can anywhere he can sink the teeth in!!

They are both grey tabbies with green eyes, but are almost opposites in every other way, personality wise and appearance wise. Funny, huh? But they are both sweet cats who have no desire to hurt anyone, and while they are not best friends who snuggle up together, they get along just fine.

Eeek, I love Mylo's expression! He looks like a character.

Ziggy looks like he's part lynx point Siamese, from that picture. I think my kitty Iris might be part Siamese, because of her appearance - longer face, almond shaped eyes, slender build, and ever so slightly crossed eyes - as well as her chattiness. Iris is a bit skittish herself (she was a stray), she usually darts away from hands if you're too sudden with the movement, but she'll come to me.

Tish, I have to laugh at your pic of Sammy and Dee Dee. That's hilarious. And Selkie likes to lounge around in just the same position as Olivia.

Seriously, everyone's got great looking dogs and cats. And even better, they all look happy and healthy!

We truly are some pet lovers as well as Hoya lovers. Here's 4 of mine. One is in hiding, she does like I do when the camera comes out.....RUN for cover.....lol.

This is Frankie, he is 7.5 yrs old.

Maui is the oldest of our kitties at 10

Bitty Kitty is 5 found her in the street when she was a itty bitty kitty

and Sarge is 2 found under a car when he was just a few days old, I bottle fed him every two hours.

Minnie Maui is the camera shy one. She is a small domestic short hair tigar cat and is 5 yrs old. She adopted me from the shelter and is my baby girl.She prefers staying in the bedroom most of the time out of site.

David Michael!!! Talking smack about my Meezers!!! What's ironic is that when someone comes to visit for the first time, they always love Cooper and Elliott the most (for their appearance). We almost lost Cooper a couple of weeks ago. Had to rush him to the ER and then was at our vets for a week. They sent him home thinking he wasn't going to make it. I enlisted the breeder's help and she is the reason he is still alive. He isn't out of the woods either. Still having bouts of vomiting. He goes next Monday for some more x-rays and lab work. He could possibly have lymphoma. I do have issues with some of the cats getting along. Elliott is a bully to a lot of them. Simon is like Gizmo--my big love bug!!! And by the way, smarty pants, I'm a "self proclaimed" crazy cat lady :)

Maid, my husband says the same thing about coming back as one of my cats. It just means were great momcats ;)

Kelly, I think Lucy and Toby would make a lovely couple, don't you? Cooper is only a baby in that picture. It was the first picture I ever took of him and it is the best one. He was still at the breeder's house. Breeder's don't let kittens go until they are 4 months old and spayed or neutered. That was at my first visit. We visited him every other week until we could take him home.

Lady, you have yourself an applehead Meezer--beautiful! I can't believe you found her roaming out in the street, especially just a tiny kitten!!!

Quinn what did you think when you first saw Selkie on her back with all four legs up? I couldn't believe it. We laughed so hard. Then she kept doing it and I finally got a couple of pictures of her. She lays there like that for quite some time too.

Everyone's kitties and doggies are so adorable. I've got to say, it just warms my heart to no end that so many cats and dogs have such wonderful homes. Wish every cat and dog had that kind of life...

I think everyone here would love this website, "I can has cheezburger", if you don't already know about it. I've posted a link below.

Tish, no website. . . but I agree. It's nice to know there are so many lucky animals being loved by wonderful people. . . there's a comercial on tv here that shows abused pets (I think its for a shelter or something) anyway, I can't even look at the TV when it's on. . . it's so sad. . .

Tish please don't take me seriously!!! All of your cats are very pretty and I hope Cooper is okay. I had a similar scare with Gizmo a few years ago when he almost went into renal failure. Thank goodness he pulled through. Then last year we thought he might be diabetic but turns out he is okay.

Maid I know the commercial you're talking about,if it's the same one that has in the arms of the angel playing in the background. As soon as it comes on I turn the channel.there's not much that really jars my emotions enough to make me cry but that commercial does and any human being that abuses an animal should be taken to the nearest zoo and fed to the tigers.

Oh David, I'm just playing with you, Goof!!!

That commercial plays on Animal Planet. Have ya'll ever whatched Animal Planet Animal Cops? I sit there and bawl through it and my husband says "honey, why do you watch it if it is going to hurt you so much"? I tell him because sometimes there is a happy ending. I feel the same way you do about people who hurt animals, David. God help them!!!

Tish, I never saw a cat do that before Selkie. She likes to sleep like that. Also, Selkie actually will tuck her paws in tighter, just under her chin, and tilt her head to the side, to make herself extra cute. She will often do this in hopes of getting a taste of whatever you are eating, ha. But she frequently won't eat people food, she just wants you to offer it to her. I actually don't give in to her most of the time, because I'm pretty sure she will become insufferable, but my ex, who was not a cat person before her, could never resist. Which is why when we ate at the dinner table, I was allowed to eat in peace. He, instead, had to deal with a cat who would lie in wait at his side, until he started to bring his fork to his mouth. Then she would bat his elbow to try to get him to drop his food. Ha!

She doesn't live with anyone who falls for her charms now, so no more batting at elbows, although she still tries the "I'm cute" trick. She likes to pick battles she can actually win, most of the time : )

Oh, I hope Cooper will be okay! (I'm totally in love with Cooper by the way!) Toby and Lucy would be cute together! Have heard more than once that orange tabbies have the best personalities!

David, Mylo is a trip! He's an in-your-face, clutsy, happy-go-lucky cat!

Love all of the pictures and as already said, it's so nice to see so many loved pets!

Quinn, I'll have to look up the lynyx point Siamese! Zig is such a cool cat even though he can't be handled yet. He's even jumped in my lap, but I go to pet him and he runs. He's so good with the other cats- even with little Allie who is just a little pixie kitty at only 6 lbs (she was really sick as a young cat). Your two have the most stunning eyes!

Denise, that picture of your guys just warms my heart! What a good girl your Lucy is!

Tish.....Bitty kitty's mom was a feral tortoise shell and father was a Siamese.Frankie and I had taken a late night walk and heard her crying. I called her and she came running to me. She was maybe 4 weeks old. Sarge came from the same feral mother,(year or so later) but he was the first tigar she was known to have. I believe she mated with another tom in the neighborhood and her usual mate stole him from the litter and dropped him under the car of a neighbor. The neighbor seen this bigger cat run from under her car and just happened to look under it and seen him there. If she had not looked she would have run over him.

Kelly.....Frankie was adopted from the Pups under Protection Program when he was 5-6 weeks old. I was wanting a black Lab when DH and I seen him and his litter mates. His mother was a black Lab and we believe from the rest of his caricaturistics black Chow Chow. He looks like a miniture Lab. He's my shadow and goes just about everywhere I do. He's the best and smartest dog I have ever had.

I hope Cooper makes a full recovery soon. I know how stressful it is to have one of our fur babies not feeling well. I'm the neighborhood wildlife rehabilitator. Everyone brings me all the critters that have been injured or lost their mommies.

Beautiful pets, folks. I'm very pleased to see so many pets who have such loving parents...there are so many pets that are so neglected and/or abused. I watched "Animal Planet" once..at a friend's house...it was so horrific I asked the host to turn the TV off....literally 100's of dogs and cats stuffed into tiny cages...most with puppies. Mike...I love Bandit...what type of a dog is he...looks alot like a chihuahua. I have 9 chihuahuas...wish I knew how to post pictures!! Patrick

Patrick you are right he is a Chihuahua. Wow I can't believe you have nine Chihuahuas. I want a friend for Bandit because he just sleeps all day when we are at work and then he keeps us up at night because he is full of energy. I already know that the moment we get another Chihuahua that the level of barking will skyrocket and that is hard to deal with in an apartment. It's tough getting him enough exercise in the winter because he will not go outside when it is cold and snowy.
That photo is older and he looks a little more grown up now at 16 months.

Mike..you're right...they can be deafeningly loud!! I have 9 because we "missed" and ended up with puppies...two years ago...in these difficult economic times, it's hard to sell dogs...now I'm looking for good homes for several of them...9 is just too many!! I'd like to cut back to 3!! Patrick

Took a couple of days but Princess Minnie Maui came out to sun herself today in the window. See how her paws are crossed as if to say how special she is. She does this all the time.

And talking about the kitties that like to sleep on their backs 2 of mine do it all the time too.

Patrick...too bad you live soooo far away.....I have been wanting a chihuahua for the longest time.

My cat Nala, though we just call her cat. Turned 2 on January 5.

This is my Chihauhau Sophie. Turned 1 today actually, January 22. Thinks she's a little human girl.

This is one of my rabbits, Efram. He'll be 2 on June 25. I have 5 other rabbits (Ruddigger-2 on May 30, Dingo-2 on October 27, and Loki, Spockles and Chester-all 1 on March 25) but I don't have pics of them uploaded on my comp yet.

And this is an old picture of a wild jack rabbit that I found as a little baby and raised to adult. His name was Boots and he's just a baby in this pic. Maybe a month old or so. Fed him with a syringe until he was old enough for solid food. Sadly I couldn't keep him because, well, he's a wild rabbit. Had to let him go. But I'll always love him.
