Questions about another Fig preserves Recipe

The recipe I'd like to try due to a friends gift of a bunch of figs is:

Fig Preserves

6 pounds figs, peeled or unpeeled

6 pounds sugar

3 lemons, very thinly sliced, seeds removed

Wash, drain and stem figs. Pour sugar over figs and let sit overnight. Cook over medium heat until sugar is conpletely dissolved: reduce to low heat, stirring constantly to prevent sticking. Add lemon slices. Cover and cook until figs are transparent and the syrup is thick, 2-3 hours. Remove from heat, pack in hot, sterilized jars and seal according to manufacturers directions.

Makes 5 to 6 pints

I like the idea of using the lemon slices and according to reviews the sugar can be cut...like to know how much, and I would suuppose the preserves need to BWB, but for how long...10 minutes? I want to be sure it is a safe recipe.

Appreciate the input of those who are more knowledgeable than I, which is just about everyone. LOL
