August 1--playing catch up

Things get so hectic at this time of year that it's hard to keep up. I see a lot of interesting posts I'll have to check out. Here are a few things still blooming in my yard. Every day now I'm recording lots of last blooms.

Beautiful blooms. My favorites are a tie between Asiatic Pheasant and that fabulous color and the great clump of TAKE ME ALONG. I really liked both of them.

My favorites are English Lavender and that fabulous clump of Take Me Along. Sundays with Vernon caught my eye too.

Thanks everyone for your comments. Nat--The beetle is the size and shape of a Japanese beetle, but not shiny and is two shades of brown and yes, they eat the flowers and leave spots with no color. Chris--I got a single fan of Last Snowflake in August of 09. The next year I had 8 blooms and then the next year I thought it had died. It reappeared, but didn't bloom. I think I had 3 blooms last year and 7 this year. It's still a single fan. Maybe if I'd had a double fan it would've done better, but I don't know. Anyway it's been very disappointing here. It is gorgeous though.

You know that fall is coming when you're already starting to plan for next years yard. I dont know if Im the only one who has already done this, but Im starting to already see what Im planting in the yard for next year and where everything is going to go. But most of my plants are growing better than ever so they havent taken a hit from the shorter days. Cooler weather is on the way here too (Not every day is in the 90s anymore) but fortunately no daytime temps out of the 80s and no night time temps out of the 70s. Summer is really almost over and its sad since it went by so quickly. Fall and winter are my least favorite seasons and my plants arent so crazy about it either! Good luck! -Alex

Celeste, I actually got Jewel of the Oasis from Harmon Hill! :o) Here's another picture of Olfactory Evidence from yesterday evening Sherry, as far as whites/creams/light yellows go - I'm not sure, but don't think I shared this picture on Houzz... this is some that were blooming on one particular day. Left to right: Heavenly Angel Ice, Winter Treasure, Arctic Lace, Last Snowflake, Green Mystique and From Darkness Comes Light. I have others of this color too, but they were not blooming that day. This picture was on a mid 60s day with little sun.

Linda Gluck has been slow to establish here, so look forward to getting the nice blooms you have. Cliffjumper--that will be interesting to see. Jungle Beauty I didn't like. As I recall, it had small blooms, messy bloom, few blooms; but it multiplied well.

Yum...those purples are scrumptious. I love 'Guided By Voices' and 'Lake Effect' the most but they're all pretty.

I do like English Lavender. I have Guided by Voices (new) and Lake Effect has been blooming for me this year. My Lake Effect doesn't like the heat at all, and is usually awful looking by noon. I won't kick it out, cause I just love it. When it looks good, it looks really good. great pics.

Nice pics. I like the ENGLISH LAVENDER pic.
I have GUIDED BY VOICES and I think it is all finished here.

I always like clumps, so the Take Me Along is my favorite, but I like Michael Miller too.

I really love the look of English Lavender and it's doing fine now, but last year it didn't bloom and it was late to emerge this year and I thought it was a goner. Every fan has a scape now and the bud count is in the 20s.

Michael Miller always seems to look good and hasn't had any hardiness issues, but it also hasn't increased at all in 2 years.

Take Me Along is a terrific performer and has tripled the number of fans in 2 years. I love it.

Rita, Asiatic Pheasant is fairly new here, but I really like it. It seems to get a bit of a white edge later in the day. It's registered as a midseason bloomer, but so far it's starting late here which I like.

Debra, Sundays with Vernon was new last year and it has really impressed me this year. It's a big flower--8 inches-- and the bud count is 18.

Cindy, I think you'll really like Guided by Voices once it gets going. I know I do.
