Hi everybody!

It's definitely getting harder to find something to photograph each day but I've managed to find some beauty around my yard this weekend for you to enjoy....more photos

You've got some beautiful flowers blooming. Really can't pick a favorite daylily. My favorite pictures though are the ones of the driveway/path? and the one with the mountains in the background. Just gorgeous.

Beautiful, beautiful and more beautiful. Everything is beautiful. That red HIBISCUS is stunning. I never realised that the flowers are that big. Your daughter is really pretty!

I just love that garden view pathway shot and the one of the mass of coneflowers that follows it. I don't know how you manage the upkeep on all your garden. Not a weed in sight and everything is so neat and tidy. Beautiful daylily blooms on top of everything else.

Brenda, it is nice when even family members are enablers, eh? LOL!! I actually keep telling my husband "There's this garden in Western NY that someday we have to go visit!" I would love to see your beautiful garden some day. The different areas you have planted and the variety is amazing. I've been lusting for some more photos from you. Would love to see what you have on file for your veggie garden from last year if you have any time to post some. Goodness! I finally cracked open the catalog for my local nursery who I really like to support. She's a true plantswoman who I so enjoy chatting with, etc. I just sent an email over to her with my "list" (is was a long one) of plants to put aside for me for pickup when they open. It's a terrible habit I have of giving her a list each year for pickup. But my birthday is always right around when she opens, so it's a birthday present, right?!?! LOL!

I'm so excited. That bloom on Desert Icicle is about eight inches long. Front page of today's paper talks about rain records we broke this year. March had 25 days of rain. That is too much for me. I should have spent ten days in Phoenix....

When I read Veggie Chica's original Q I thought of some ideas we got at a veggie conference on selling herbs, perrenial and annual. We grow many herbs to sell as cut bunches and Basil always tops the list in our area, whether it is sweet or one of the lemons,limes,cinnimon,licorice,opal,red...well you get the picture. But pesto recipes are a great sales booster for basil and I always situate the basil (and cilantro) next to our tomato display because people need to be reminded of the association of the two. But when it comes to the other herbs, we had moderate sales of potted herbs until we took it to a new level in offering mixed herb "SIX PACKS". Six different basils= "PESTO PACK". Combine other herbs to make the "SEASONING PACK", "FRAGRANCE PACK", "MEDICINAL PACK", FLAVOR PACK", "TEA PACK", etc. Start your herbs separately and at different times to allow the packs to all look uniform when you combine them to create the six packs. For instance, dill and cilantro grow much faster than ..... Rosemary, Lavender and Thyme are slow growers. You will be amazed at the increased sales, especially in areas where people associate six packs with beverages.

Just a thought but have you looked at bloom times for these plants . Do you want your plants all blooming at the same time and finished blooming at the same time or do you want only one plant dominating the view at one time ?In a mixed garden for extended bloom it is important to pick plants that bloom early , mid season and late season. So along with what you have picked as main plants you may want to intersperse with other complimentary plants that either bloom in conjunction with your main focal plants or layer plants ( ie. bulbs under the plants that bloom early and say when your alliums are blooming they are dying back and when your alliums are dying back ( by the way the heads make an interesting addition to the garden when the blooms are finished ) then another plant is ready to take over the blooms. For me I grow daylilies .....extra early, early , mid , late and very late blooms take me pretty much thru the season . However early for a daylily is maybe end of june so I have other plants like snowdrops, crocus , tulips, daffodils, narcissus that take up the early spring , then alliums and iris , solomons seal and early perennial poppies , then come the summer plants .....so just something to consider so that you have bloom from spring to fall . I love the view from the driveway! Just gorgeous! Your daughter is as pretty as those huge hibiscus flowers. Having her in the photo was a good way to show everyone just how large those flowers are. EL DESPERADO is my favorite of the daylilies!

Wow, Celeste;You still have some vey beautiful flowers.INNER VISION is a very pretty one. and I just love FLAMING WILDFIRE.both pictures are very pretty and bright.Looks like you still have quite a few Lilies blooming and big buds ready to open soon.Those white ones is so pretty.Are thos ORIENTAL'S?Those big Hibiscus sure is pretty. I just love those Red ones.The pinks are pretty too, but the Reds are my favorites.. EL DESPERADO is such a gorgeous DL..You have a very pretty little daughter, too.and pretty name too.I have a rose named Tiffany.

Yay! I love seeing your pics! Very pretty. I like your road with the swing and your hibiscus- I have Plum Crazy for the second year and am amazed at how it keeps putting out new buds. Your daughter really is very lovely:)

Love the red hibiscus. I have a red, but not that big. It really makes a nice picture with your daughter. Lady Neva has one bud left & she will be gone here. I don't remember her being this late before, but I wish it were always late. she made a nice show this year. I love the scenic pics of your path, & the mountains.

I have enjoyed reading your comments. Thank you for always being so thoughtful in responding...it makes posting pictures worth all the trouble!

I asked Tiffany to be my 'model' because without anything to compare them to, I wouldn't be able to show just how HUGE these blooms are. Even though Tiffany is 18 she is teensy (under 5 ft. and under 90 lbs) so maybe they look even bigger next to her....but trust me, they are way bigger than your head. Thank you for your compliments for Tiffany,
and my gardens as well. Jean, I also have the rose 'Tiffany'...and I have the daylily 'Tiffany Gold' which is new & didn't bloom yet. Judy, there are roses at the base of the arbor but I had to whack them back in July when the beetles nearly stripped them of leaves.
Just for fun, here's a picture of Tiffany from her senior prom this past June. It wasn't easy finding a ballgown in a size 00...(and we even had to have it taken in!).

Ooooh, love that shade of purple. Bummer that there aren't many excuses for adults to wear fun formalwear unless you're an Oscar winner :)

I have the same red dinner-plate Hibiscus, and I have a giant pink one called, 'Sweet Caroline' that I bought last year. It bloomed and bloomed through the triple digit heat and our drought. It is resting now, but getting ready to bloom again I believe. My white one is still going. That thing never stops blooming from June til frost. Heat and drought never seems to bother it at all.

Love your mountain overlook view with the Black-eyed Susans.
