I think I have this Hoya. It was given to me 3 yrs. ago, tentatively IDed as H. longifolia. But the older it gets, the more the growth habit resembles this one, the 'clusters' of leaves as OkieDeb said. It's a very nice growth habit, yet stays compact. As ODeb said, I keep rooting a new piece or 2 every yr. & adding it back into the pot. Someday when it blooms I hope to know for sure!
Karen, if you keep H. retusa in a terrarium you will have a basket full of this plant in no time. Mine is taking over a 1 gallon aquarium! But no blooms. :(
Yes humidity and some sunlight and retusa responds well. If your growing in a basket try putting a gallon baggie over the rim of the basket,,,,make sure the soil is moist though and not soggy wet when you do this. Between some sun and the humidity it will raise its head and take off for you.,,,Debbie
Thx much for the tip abt terrariums, unfortunately, w/ this many Hoyas & somewhat limited space I can't really do them in terrariums. I've had my 'maybe' Retusa on a pebble tray as all my other Hoyas & it's growing pretty fast as it is, got a few tips of new growth most of the time lately.
I have Linearis in sort of a terrarium & had my new varieg. Bella in one too, which it just outgrew (w/ a new side branch), but I can see this Bella would really like to stay in a terrarium ....
Well, as your suggestions have inspired me, I just put 'maybe' Retusa on an intermittent wick (one that I let dry out a couple of days a wk) as an interim solution, so it'll be interesting to see how it does w/ that.
I'll report back if it speeds it up noticeably. Thx to both of you for the tip!
