Very Pretty Jan and Jo!! Congrats to you both, I just LOVE serpens flowers, have a small rooted cuttings of Mathilde and love the leaves, I just wish Mathilde flowers were closer to the Serpens. Seems a lot easier for me in(Fl) to grow the Mathilde than Serpens,not as finicky...but the blooms are so worth it! Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, you are correct, Monica. It is a marketing ploy! That being said, there are many cv. Krimson Princesses (aka Rubra) that are superior in quality. It just depends on the health of the mother plant and what kind of growth the mother plant wants to make. I could, for example, make a gorgeous specimen of my Krimson Queen, by cutting the best growth out and rooting it in a different pot. My original plant would then look subpar, in comparison.

I have a crappy little KQ that had several new vines of plain white leaves, but no green new growth. Some people suggest removing them to help the plant put it's energy into growing (as the white ones don't produce chlorophyll so don't really do anything but look pretty) I liked the white leaves so I left them on. I realised a few months back that the plant hadn't grown for ages and generally looked poor. I checked it's roots (all good) so, feeling like a murderer, I removed almost all the white leaves (I left one, I couldn't help it :D) Wouldn't you know, it has suddenly started growing again from all the points I chopped off, and all strong normal KQ leaves. So, in my totally just made up scientific theory, if the plant is big and healthy, a few white leaves are fine. If the plant is small and struggling, remove them and cross your fingers... lol.

Hoya australis ssp. tenuipes 'Lisa' is a completely different plant from Hoya tricolor (which carries the proper names of either Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' or Hoya carnosa tricolor). Hoya australis 'Lisa' has completely different flowers and leaves from the carnosas. Your's is actually neither. Hoya carnosa Krimson Queen is an albomarginated plant (meaning the leaf edges are white, and the center of the leaves are green). Yours is a variegated plant (leaf edges are green and center of leaf is white), which means you have Hoya carnosa Krimson Princess a.k.a Hoya carnosa 'Rubra' or Hoya carnosa variegated. An easy way to remember whether or not you have Krimson Queen or Krimson Princess: The Queen wears her white like a crown (the leaf edges are white, like a silver crown) The Princess wears her white like a gown (the white is in the middle of the leaf; leaf edges/margins are green).
