great pictures,its been a pleasure looking at them all....could you tell me the name of this hosta on one of your pictures..thanks

I can't say for sure what that one is, but it looks identical to my Satisfaction.

I'm pretty sure I'm not growing it...but it's a beauty. Looks a lot like the HL pics of Satisfaction. Or maybe the second pic of Afternoon Delight.

I think what he is saying is that he puts so many in each day that we can't keep up with each of them. Plus there are so many that they don't get many responses. It would be so nice to see 2 or 3 each day and maybe some conversation started from them. That would have taken us through the winter. I've really enjoyed looking through them but because hardly any responses to individual ones that I don't go back in to read what is being said and get another look at the Hosta. I noticed the other day that his were already down to page 3. For those that come in maybe once a week probably are missing those. I think we all want to have him post them. Cher

We too get 2+ foot of snow and sub-zero weather. Hosta are definite water lovers, yes we water and often wish we could double what we lay down. Now understand the soil here is way light and drainage is beyond good. If we get an inch or more in a week, all's O.K. but two is better. H. 'Abba Dabba Do' is a great example of a water lover. You really have to drench it real often to get it to stand up tall and perky. Most of the hosta are in almost complete shade, say, heavily mottled. Now, after years, we see that Hosta are NOT shade plants, merely shade tolerant. We have several examples of the same cultivar in deep shade vs. one in more reasonable light, and the growth difference is obvious. Finally, yes, the plain old dymo embossed labels last and last, at least in the shade. It's a pressure-activated adhesive, so press hard when applying. It takes a sharp pocket knife (and a steady hand) to get one back off after 10 years, I can tell you! Hope I got all that and didn't go too far. hh

Mocassin, Not just red legs, but flower bracts, leaves, scapes and seed pods. What is good about the red/purple is that it is no longer a main feature in new introductions but an added feature. Hostas like Celtic Dancer and Miss Linda Smith would have been introduced without the red pets. They are just an added attraction. Here's the one that I want, but it's way too expensive right now. This pic is from the First Look auction where this plant went for hundreds of dollars. It's my desktop wallpaper. Hosta 'Almost' bred by Arthur Wrede Here are the pets from Red Sox. Here's a leaf closeup of Red Sox. The red goes about a third of the way up the middle vein. Miss Grace (pets) a more affordable Arthur Wrede introduction. Seedpod on Purple Boots Miss Linda Smith another Arthur Wrede Hosta. Beet Salad flower bract. Look at the vestigial leaves in this bract. That is what is possible. Steve

just found the same picture of it on the hosta library...it is 'satisfaction'..great hosta...another one on my wish list!

OK, yes, I'm spotty with internet activity. At the end of the season it's clean-up time, then the holidays are family time, then it's keep up with the snow on the driveway, then it's catalogue season, yay!

Now I'll try to describe the main Hosta in the foto: Yes, the one that someone circled in black is H. Satisfaction.

The blue to it's left is H. Love Pat.

The little one almost buried to it's lower left is H. Stiletto.

To the left of H. Stiletto is H. Kiwi Full Monte.

To the upper left of KFM is H. Paradise Glory.

Behind Love Pat is, of course H. Sum and Substance.

To the right of Satisfaction is H. Orange Marmalade.

BTW, this bed gets a lot more sun than most of here.
