So hot and humid here I decided to spend the afternoon uploading photos. Some you've seen before and I think a couple you haven't.

CITRON ENCHANTER - on its last bloom. When I divided it last year I decided on 3 double fan plantings. I got this one from Gaskins 3 years ago and it just increases great. Bloom count down this year but that could be my fault for dividing it last fall.

Our neighbor who are on their way to church this morning. The parents left in the carriage and 2 of the their sons got the open convertible :-). Yes, we do live in the country.

One of my favorite Rose Of Sharon bushes called Sugar Tips. It has variegated foliage and the blooms are like pom-poms.

Rural life were their are still horse and buggy carriges must be really lovely. All the daylily blooms are beauitiful so it is hard to pick a favorite. I do really like SUMMERTIME IDYLL and CAPACITY FOR WONDER but will go with RUBY STELLA as my choice.

Citron Enchanter and Startle are looking good. Show us Tropical Sunrise when it is fully open, and how about a full bush shot of Sugar Tips.

Nice day and a lovely vase of blooms! CBS Sunday Morning with coffee and the papers. Bacon & eggs for breakfast. Put in a load of laundry and ran a load of dishes. Sunny and not too windy, if a little chilly out, so I checked my rose seeds out on the patio. Two germinations made me happy, one from Midas Touch and one from Julia Child. Hope they grow! Grocery shopping with a little added bonus. When we pulled into the little local shopping center Al spotted the ice cream shop and said we should have ice cream for dinner. I said OK and we laughed. Coming out of the grocery he put the bags in the trunk and then started walking away. He went to the ice cream shop and bought us cones! I had something called Cow Tipping? Chocolate cows (they really were little chocolate cows, lol) in vanilla ice cream with caramel swirls. It was good! Went out and took some pictures of the things that are blooming, hiacynth, daffodil, tulips and finally my forsythia popped! I guess I can prune now! Pork chops w/onions, mashed potatoes & gravy and home made applesauce for dinner. Probably some couch potato TV tonite.

Answering on two fronts here: First, runktrun, hi, ladybug!....If you like a print catalog with some very upbeat writing in it, go to www.plant-delightsnursery.com and you'll find some good reading. You can order back catalogs, I love the cover art, and they go trekking around the world on plant hunts. This harkens back to the Victorian days when explorers brought home gems of the plant world and did fantastic things to the countryside. Now, I quote from this topic: "my lust for a bargain wins. I already mentioned somewhere I bought 1000 muscari from Van.E at 40 percent off. But I give myself credit for not buying the narcissi they had left because I just wasn;t crazy about them. They arrived in 24 hours!!" Was it idabean who said this? Oh wow, I love muscari and think you must too. Down here (yes, we are now back in south Alabama for the winter) I have some variety of muscari in a dark green border around much of my tropical flower beds. But I think one can never have too much muscari.

Hi Ilene, I'm kind of amazed y'all didn't have a frost because it looked pretty cold up there on the weather map. The green tomatoes I left on the vines are just sitting there and sitting there and sitting there. I don't think they are going to change colors and ripen until the sun shines. Supposedly we will have sunshine here on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I'll believe it when I actually see it since that also was our forecast last weekend and we had no sunshine and lots of cold instead. I think in the last two weeks, we've had a couple of times where the sun came out for 3 or 4 minutes, and last Thursday we had a hour or so of sun early in the day. It got our hopes up for a sunny day, but then that tiny bit of sun vanished. I saw an article on the website of either the Fort Worth or Dallas newspaper that said as of yesterday they were on their 11th straight day of clouds/no sunlight, so even that far south they are having about the same weather as most of us. The good news is that most of Texas has had a lot of rain and their drought conditions are receding. When the new Drought Monitor map is released tomorrow, we'll see a lot of changes.....I know that, not because I'm psychic, but because I have already looked at their KBDI map this week on another website and it shows great changes. Don't those Crocs have holes in them? I can't wear anything like that, including any sandals or open-toed or open-heeled shoes, that let the scorpions or fire ants have access to my skin or they'll take advantage of it. I learned that the hard way and have tried pretty hard not to slip up......if there is one fire ant in the yard and I go outside the house in sandals (I do wear them indoors), that one fire ant will find me the instance I step off the porch and onto the ground. We do have fire ant mounds popping up in a few places, and I still have some organic fire ant killer, so if we get a couple of dry days, I'll treat those mounds. Our puddles even have puddles, Ilene. The dog yard is a muddy mess but we've spread a couple of bales of straw there and that is helping. I think we need to get a couple more bales of straw and put out even more. When I walk in the garden, it squishes. I suspect this long, cloudy spell is a taste of the kind of fall/winter weather we're going to have this year. Usually October is one of my favorite months with its bright blue, clear, sunny skies and moderate temperatures. This year is a whole different story though. Dawn

Yeah, Carol, we're just adorable, aren't we? ROFL... shaun, I thought that was a really handy way to use up cherry tomatoes when the big ones aren't very good and it makes a great salad that doesn't need a fork! Yes, you're suggestable. LOL That's why we love you. (grin) Gina, that's a HUGE convention hall, so it wasn't crowded at all when we got there, and was only a little more crowded when we left at 4. There were 12 "aisles" of food and wine booths and we just walked up and down the aisles, eating and drinking as we went. Eileen, I'll make a separate posting for those blue cheesse wafers. It was supposed to be a cookie (?!!) recipe, but that didn't sound good so I just left the sugar out. Elery liked them a lot, and you make logs like refrigerator cookies and then just cut off and bake what you want. I still have one roll left in the fridge for Thanksgiving "snackies". Annie

haha I like them all, and even the horse and buggy.The first bloom that is very purple is a gorgeous bloom.Forgot its name and dont want to back up to see.Its so hot tday,I dont have the energy for it.

Citron Enchanter and Summertime Idyll are my favorites out of a great group. The bud count on CE probably is down because it was divided last fall. Some daylilies don't seem to care and others tend to sulk a little before they get back to normal.

Citron Enchanter is just dreamy. So beautiful. I also like the horse and buggy picture. I would like to have neighbors like that, dressed for church in their quiet buggy. My neighbors peel out in their jacked-up big wheel trucks laying rubber everywhere. I live in the country too, but some use our road as a speedway and I've had people throw beer cans into my flower borders. Ugh.

Your photography is excellent. Nice photos!

My favorite daylily is Citron Encounter. Your Startle looks really good too. That is a wonderful shot of the horse & buggy.

Cape Romain Harbor caught my attention. Looks perfect in your picture. This is not to say that the others are not nice too. I like them all....And as romantic as a buggy ride looks, I'll take a car with A/C in this heat thank you very much.....Maryl

The first thing that struck me in the buggy shot was the sleek horse--no fat there. I also think the guys' hats are cool.

Thanks all for the comments. I see so many still blooming but there is alot of brown scapes as well.
Mennonites and Amish are a common site in our area so seeing carriages is a norm when traveling around here. Instead of honking horns, we hear neighing from the horses. LOL.

My favorite is the first one, Citron Enchanter. There are so many others I really like to, Peaches and Gold, Cape Romain Harbour and Cerise Masterpiece, all of them has something I like about it. It's funny, Ruby Stella looks a lot like one of my seedlings except that mine is a miniature with 1" blooms. I love the pic of the horse and carriage. They really know how to look after their horses don't they? BTW, I would prefer the neighing of the horses over the loud, noisy horns anyday. Marg

This was fun, kind of like a tour through your yard with everything you see -- including neighbors. I'm in love with the color of Cerise Masterpiece.

Peaches and Gold gets my vote, beautiful edges! Ruby Stella is gorgeous also.

Thanks all for the comments. The horses do sound better than honking horns. When we visit our daughter in NYC, that is all we hear for the first few nights and then we get use to it.

RUBY STELLA is a small bloom, not tall, but it does put out alot of blooms each season. This year it gets moved to the back beds but I have so much of it that I need to get rid of some of it.

CERISE MASTERPIECE had beautiful blooms this year and so glad I took the chance on it. I got it from seller Cajunkid (Kip Schriefer) on the LA last spring. He sent really nice, well rooted double fans. NO RUST!

PEACHES AND GOLD did not send up alot of scapes this year. Still a pretty bloom and looks good next to CANTER.

Lots of on and off showers today and more rain on the way for tomorrow.

Julia, you still have many pretty ons, but that first one, Citron Enchanter, really appeals to me. Your photography is a pleasure to see, and I do like the photo of the neighbor sons. And youor Startle is the first one that has tempted me to add it to my collection.

Kay: STARTLE would not have been my choice either as something to buy but it was given to me as a double fan gift. Didn't bloom last year but this year took off. I'm surprised and startled (pun intended lol) by the blooms and how late it has been blooming.
