Parsley roots

I have a very large amount of Italian flatleaf parsley that I am harvesting and freezing this weekend, before the cool weather gets it.

A friend tells me that parsley roots are a great addition to winter soups, and should not be discarded, but harvested as well.

I've never heard of this, could he be confusing with parsnip?
