I have two 'Liberty's. The one in 2-3 hours sun grows better, but had the leaf edges burned. Though we had some really hot (95 F a week) weather in our zone 5a, upstate NY. I did overhead watering when needed, but should possible have watered daily. Thanks for all those pictures Bernd
2 years ago, I moved my Liberty into the sun hoping to see some better growth. Last year, I didn't see any growth. This year, I'm hoping to see better growth, color and margin!
That H. 'Liberty' has been there long enough to have developed a good root system, and in hot weather (we actually get a week or two in the mid 90's mid-summer, even up here half-way to the North Pole), so I put a hose in the middle of that bed and let it run for a few hours. Deep soaking!
Here is what it looks like for me in mostly shade. This is late summer, and after the hail :( I prefer the ones that are supposed to have a cream edge, to have the cream edge. Remember Me stays yellow for me in the shade, and First Frost also never gets very light on the edges. I have very little sun anywhere in my garden. I try to buy white ones that don't need a lot of light to achieve that color. But Liberty is a must have...I just wish I had the sun for it to shine! At least my blues stay blue all summer, though.
