Tiny Black spots on Areca Palm
Comments (12)Do you have a reference? While the markings may be ubiquitous to this plant, they are not a part if the plant (in ither words, the plant’s DNA does not code for or produce them). Many fungal and bacterial infections can live (and in fact, do in most plants and animals) for the entirety of a healthy plant’s life and yet are still not beneficial microbes. It is just that a healthy plant’s immune system can keep the infection from seriously damaging the plant so it continues to grow. However if this is the case, there is still some amount of risk letting it go uncontrolled. For example, if the plant becomes stressed and has to devote those resources elsewhere. Or if a more dangerous microbial infection occurs, it can potentialy feed off of the cells of the existing onfection and grow that much faster. Open to any evidence that you have that states arcela palm (dypsis lutescens) stems should be black spotted, but otherwise, i have read that it is a fungal or bacterial infecfion. Comments (15)I think your ivy can be saved, but it will take a little work. It looks better than my ivy plants right now. They are pretty sensitive plants indoors, and I don't think they like a lot of temperature variation from day to day. After 3 years going strong, mine have started to suffer. We've had strange fluctuations in temperature--70 degrees one day, 20 degrees with low humidity the next--outdoor plants are blooming...it's very confusing for any plant, I'm sure. The shower recommendation, if the soil isn't too damp, is probably a good first move. I do this every time I water by gently spraying the leaves. It does take some time. Neem oil, I have not tried, only because I'm lazy. : )...See MoreInsect eggs, feces or spores?

Comments (6)Thank you, Silica. I will contact the local Extension service. Meanwhile I found this on Citrus Black Spot: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/ourfocus/planthealth/plant-pest-and-disease-programs/pests-and-diseases/citrus/citrus-black-spot/citrus-black-spot . The description of the spots does not quite match what I am seeing and fortunately the fruit has not been affected. My lemon tree started as a volunteer. Its parents may have been commercial citrus cultivars but it grew from a seed spread by the wind or wildlife. I wasn't sure what it was when it first appeared in my garden but it was too close to a rosebush so I put it in a small pot. That was about 10 years ago. I have 2 other store-bought lemon trees but they are more than 40 feet away and so far neither has spotted leaves....See MoreCA Kate z9
