Newbie needs help with rose bush (PICS inside)
Comments (3)Don't do anything now. In early April, remove around 1/3 of the oldest-looking canes at the base to encourage more productive new growth. Fertilize when leaves appear and a couple more times in the season. Water when the soil dries out. It can use approx. 1" per week (5-6 gallons) in hot, sunny weather. Remove spent flowers. When you get strong canes next year, bend them over and tie to the fence. Use screw eyes or something. It may be a bit awkward looking to force the rose to turn that corner, but try it and see what you think. Horizontal or arching canes will bloom more than upright canes. There are various rambler roses, hybrid musks, and shrubs with flowers like that. If blooming in fall, it is not a rambler. I thought of 'Pink Meidiland,' but the leaves would not be so elongated....See MoreShow me the insides of your secretary desk - need help (pics)
Comments (12)Thank you all for sharing your desks and ideas. I am going to research several options but now I know what I'm looking for. I would love to be able to sit at this desk and write a letter or two. This desk was a wedding gift to my gr-gr-grandmother and was brought by oxen cart from Nebraska to Iowa. I treasure it in every way so I will definately never paint it. Items like this, as well as mirrors, make me wonder about the person who used it and what their thoughts might have been. I'd love if others would like to continue to share their pictures but I feel I have some good ideas now as well as knowing some of the search words. Blotter, that's what I had forgotten. Also, thanks for the great links. I knew you'd all be able to help me out again....See MoreNeed help Drip watering Basil inside

When my basil gets big enough to transplant i want to plant in potting soil and keep it in the closet. I know hydro plants get watered a few times A DAY. But i know soil retains water better, how often would i need to water basil if its going inside in soil grown under lights? and how much water per session?...See MoreNeed some help with Al's Gritty Mix. Pics inside
Comments (6)I agree with Andy - blending bark then sifting it at the appropriate size is really a lot of work for a component of the mix that potential will give you even more problems, such as attracting pests to eat the organic matter, and it potentially also might become a hydrophobic component, which messes the water Renton of your mix. If you can, try to replace the bark component with pumice/gravel/or another type of grit if u can find it. I'm starting to use growstones in my new mix now, because they combat gnats. Else adding perlite into your clay and grit. Im not sure about the safety absorbent as a ingradient because I heard some products have harmful chemicals in them, and they are not ph neutral....See MoreAmino_X
