Supporting vigorous vines-- what works?

I am looking at either queen's wreath or crossvine, and want to know what i can stick along the fence so it will attach. I'd rather not let the vines pull down the fence :)

One idea I had was chicken wire; think it's strong/sturdy enough, or will it start to rust? Wooden trellises don't seem sturdy enough. My fence is a typical wooden privacy fence, and seems sturdy, but I don't want to compromise that if I don't have to. I don't know if those vinyl lattice things are any good in terms of tendrils attaching to them; my instinct says 'no.'

Anyone who has experience with these 2 plants, by the way? I've looked up a number of things on them and I just love the idea of a fence full of queen's wreath. Crossvine being a native appeals to me too; I love the idea it attracts hummingbirds, but in super-densely-urban Pinellas County, I'd be shocked if even one showed up!
