Follow Michael's and Susan's advice and it should be fine. I keep my rose tree in my shed for the winter and in the spring when things start to warm up I can tell when it looks like it wants to start budding out. That's when I wheel it back outside into the light. If there is going to be a deep freeze I wheel it back in. That's when the wheeled pot trolley is the most beneficial. It makes it much easier to move that big, heavy, tall awkward pot in and out. I've been doing this for 6 years now and it's still doing great!

Hi Lucidity: I had a passiflora caerrula(sp?) a few years ago, that I cut back and brought into my unheated garage to store (dark and dormant). In late February or early March, I put it under shop lights in the garage, and it started to put on new growth. It is fairly hardy, and so could be put out quite early in spring to harden off, but brought in if freeze was forecast. Late april, early May it went out for good. You could move it out permanently earlier if you throw some of that shrub protector fabric or row cloth around it if the temps drop suddenly. I have to say even though the foliage was lovely draped over an arbour, mine wasn't too successful with flowering - I only got a few blooms in August/September, but they were stunning. Unfortunately, I lost it by trying to overwinter it outside (as an experiment) in a protected corner, raised and buried in bags of leaves and insulation. It was a very cold winter that year and my experiment failed - too bad I hadn't waited 'till last year, when it was so mild. Good luck with yours. Judith

MGT, if this was my plant I would go with the 'Y' stalk in the middle of the last photo and remove the stalks that go out from it. You then will have some large cuttings in which to start rooting and will bloom just like the main trunk next year. It would then become more of a tree shape and not a shrub that you have here for the second year if you keep it trimmed upward. I'm sorry to disagree with Wildcat but if you want them to really preform, resting in the winter months up north is a must. Think of it as a human that is on the go all the time without resting it will wear down fast and not preform at it's best if it doesn't rest some. You also have to ask yourself if you want the shrub shape or more of a tree form? Both if given the right conditions can have flushes of well over 100 blooms.

I cut back to above the first two Y's or at least 6 nodes above the initial Y to allow for dieback. I have to cut back or I would never fit them into my house. I don't even want to think about how many pots are coming inside this Fall- well over 100! 150??? I just use regular flourescent fixtures like Kristy. I have a ceiling fan in my sunroom, and might slap 1-2 plant growlamps up there. I run the lights for 18 hours, especially once I start my brug seedlings. The lights that Karyn suggested are expensive but Barry used them last winter and his seedlings and plants were just beautiful! Brenda
