i have 4 ROS in same soil and sun 2 bloom , although less than they did in early june 1 bloomed copiously late spring but now has buds that won't open 1 bloomed copioulsy late spring but has had no buds for last 3 weeks squirrel were eating flowers so i spray castor oil i also fed them hibiscus slow release 15-30 -15 granules what gives

New to western Tennessee, moved from central FL. Never had a ROS. There are 2 bushes in my east front yard. One bush has been blooming the other is loaded with buds and only 2 have bloomed. Checked several buds, no pests and no fungus. Buds perfect inside, good light pink color with burgundy centers. Leaves are healthy. Pruned in late winter, fertilized lightly in early spring with 10-10-10. Only water (we are in a drought) when leaves looks slightly wilted. Previous owner said she could never get it to bloom, plant is 8 years old. Did you have any luck on finding out why yours won't bloom?

this is one of the most interesting threads that I have read. I have limelights. 4 plants, planted at same time, came from same nursery and planted adjacent to each other. They are mature plants now. 2 bloomed profusely this year. The other 2 have scores of "blooms" which did not "open up" or rather "fully develop". (Very similar to the stories above.) We could not figure out how 4 identical plants, planted at same time, same age, same variety, same light, same pruning technique and same location could produce extravagant blossoming blooms on 2 plants and stunted blooms that never mature on the other 2. This at least gives me two theories, (different moisture and sterile blooms). I did notice that the bees were going CRAZY on the plants that bloomed more profusely.

My biggest Rose of Sharon suddenly exploded into bloom on Saturday, and the bees are so happy. I have a problem with this bush and I've been looking for help online. I haven't identified what kind this is, but it is huge and grows vigorously; single purple blooms. I'm assuming it's a pretty generic Rose of Sharon. This is my second summer with this yard & house. I didn't plant the bush/tree and it's now taking over the sidewalk. This is my husband's biggest peeve--I've spent the last year replacing or moving other plants that dared to flop onto the sidewalk. I must admit it's really out of control. I should have pruned it more this spring. How big do these guys get? Will it be horribly hurt if I prune it back now some more while it's blooming? It's right next to the house, in a narrow strip of ground (about 2-1/2 feet). Should we just remove the whole bush? It's about 8 feet tall and growing like crazy. It's so beautiful I hate to take it out. It has also made LOTS of babies so I have to decide whether they should stay or go too. I also have a Diana (white) that hasn't bloomed yet, and a double-lavender flowered bush in the backyard. I love them all.
