have you inspected it for bugs or scale ? Could be a water issue. sometimes plats will look like they are not getting enough water, when it is getting plenty, but the roots are just not taking it up for some reason. same with minerals. my papaya do this to me when they get root-rot. leaves wilt, looking like they dont have enough water, when the ground is saturated. i have a 25ft Alba, but never had that problem. I am actually looking for cuttings .... for Nigra - or Pakistan - :) if you could oblige, i am happy to pay shipping in advance. would kinda like to make sure your plant doesnt have a virus first though... I'm from the Antelope Valley. Fruitless mulberries get huge..fast. I hope you have a lot of room. I see people with the trees out here along the sidewalk(between the side walk and street) they are tearing up the sidewalks! If it is next to any structure there will probably be damage. Anyway, very fast growing trees take up a LOT of water. I don't know what's on your tree's leaves but it's probably signs of stress. They need to be deep watered once a week at least. Shallow infrequent waterings(sprinkler only etc....)lead to a very weak tree. I'd also cover the base with 2 inches of compost and 2 inches of mulch to add nutrition and hold in water. Do not make a "hill" around the base of the tree. Spread the mulch evenly in a circle the at least 4ft out. The high desert here starts at 2,000ft. We have 40 degree fluctuations in temps. in one day.a good way to test for watering is a piece of rebar. If it's muddy and wet 1 1/2 ft down you're good. If it's dry deep water. Don't plant any plants around the base...it will weaken the trees. Hope this helps.PJ

Mulberries (Morus species) are not evergreen. If you live anywhere in the northern hemisphere, that leaf appearance should be expected, as the leaves will dessicate and fall off with the onset of winter and dormancy. In fact, the tree should not be pushing any new growth at this time of year unless kept in an unnaturally warm environment. Are we missing some info here?

Oh no, sorry, I meant the scion. I put the prunings in a glass of water, and one of them developed roots. So it sounds like the rootstock is probably a fruitless variety? Yes, they are well away from the house. I also planted a dwarf mulberry, that’s already 12’ in one year! They grow really fast here, but my family is crazy about the berries so we’re very happy. Thank you SO much for your help—I am learning so much from this group! :-)
