Hi, the white poppy is California Alba, sorry I didn't realize I had mispelled it on my trade list. It over winters in some of zone 7 and others as an annual. Long ago Native Americans in California used this poppy for tooth aches and headache pain. It doesn't have the strong alkaloids of opiate poppy but was also used as a food source (root and leaves). The lavender poppy is a bread poppy with a gorgeous laender bloom. Take care, Happyseed

Spring Meadow's online descriptions of the newer ones they are promoting mention 'Blue Bird' (correctly 'Oiseau Bleu', "blue bird" being a translation into English and not the actual name of the cultivar) being mixed up in the trade. The same will of course become possible with Blue Satin ('Marina') TM at some point, although it is rather early in its history for other introductions to have been put on the market in its place. Bailey nursery has their own blue one that their site says was selected from a block of blue seedlings. So apparently you can sometimes raise seed of a blue one and get a number of additional blue forms. Perhaps this is what happened with 'Oiseau Bleu', seedlings of it being sold as the original clone. Or some other factor like cultural conditions is causing variation in flower tinting and plant behavior.

MIke lol....Yes I love that one too. That is why I tried to root a lot from that one. But this one just did not want to root. All I got moslty is the light pink/purple double ROS ardens one. Even the light pink did not want to root easily. About the sock MIke...I keep that in mind. No wonder Kristy and I are getting along so great hahahahaha hmm I just dug out something about the name of this shrub. Well I THINK, that a rose of Sharon falls under the more general species of Hibiscus? Could that be? I have 0 knowledge :-( But the old order for the rose of Sharon *Ardens*...now i have one name already :-) some 15 years ago says: Hibiscus.....rose of Sharon *Ardens* H. syriacus. Hibiscus Syriacus "Rose of Sharon" are really tough plants and can take a lot of abuse but now is not a good time for planting them. They will almost certainly suffer some transplant shock which is normal. Full sun and the high temps being experienced across the country could do more harm than good. I've always had excellent results transplanting in early spring or fall. That gives the rootball time to settle in before weather extremes become a factor. Rosie
