Need advice on digging all of my daylilies up

Our house recently flooded due to the torential rains we've been having, so we had a landscaper out to get some suggestions on how to improve the drainage in our backyard. Besides putting in some drains, we need to lower the yard, which means digging up all of my plants (mostly daylilies and roses). They said they will dig up the plants and replant them when they're done, but I'm afraid they won't be as careful as I will so I'm thinking about putting as many of them in pots as I can. Should I rinse the soil completely off the roots before I put them in potting soil or should I keep some of the dirt on it to keep from disrupting the roots?
