LOOKING for roselle hibiscus/sabdariffa

I'm looking for these seeds.I use to grow this in the past and traded my seeds out,so I didn't have it last year.I really liked it& miss it And everyone revisting my yard always asks where's it at?It makes good tea.does anyone I traded here have any still?5 seeds will do me.

Hi there

I have a crop of Hibiscus sabdariffa that is flowering at the moment...(I am in the southern hemisphere).

Can you tell me how you made the tea ? I have lots of red calyxes on the plant, with immature seeds inside, is it just a matter of taking the red calyxes off and plopping them in a pot with some boiling water ?

Thanks...I can give you some seeds, but perhaps someone closer to you might be better. The seeds arent ripe yet, but they should be in a month or so, I guess.

I've grown them several times here and they really thrive, and are quite ornamental too. As I'm sure you know, but someone reading along might not, the red calyx that forms is what's used in "hibiscus tea" and other yummy culinary treats (I always thought it was the flowers or petals until I grew it and then googled on how to make the tea, lol). Baker Nursery usually has young plants in spring. I've seen them there the last four or five years. They might be worth calling. Just for fun, here's a pic of some of the calyces from a couple of seasons ago from my plant. I did buy the original at Baker too. Happy gardening--let us know if/when/where you find some!

My only answer is that it is a tropical plant and just doesn't have time in zone 7 to complete it's cycle. I'm glad you're getting calyxs tho, it's not a waste of space.
