I had to look up blue river hibiscus. What a lovely bloom! It looks like a hardy hibiscus, it dies back to the ground after frost, right? If it does, then after it blooms it should set some seed pods. The pods look a little like a beginning bud. They take several weeks to mature, but when mature they turn brown and begin to crack open at the top. Each pod will have 20 or more seeds. When they are brown just pop them off the plant and store whole, or open and scrape out the seeds. I plant some of the seeds right away in pots and let them winter on my porch. I usually get seedlings in the spring that way. I have also waited and planted in the spring and they germinate then as well. Glenda

How could you choose? I love them all. My lord baltimore has been blooming since late july covered in blooms everyday! It is about 8 foot tall and the pride of my gardens. I have found myself very adicted to the Flemming seies of hibiscus and am trying to collect them all. I moved my texas star hoping it may like its new location better. Would love to have some seed of plumb crazy & fantasia, or any from the Flemming seies if anyone has any to trade. I have tons of lord baltimore and some very dark pinky burgundy . Just got cuttings of several I am sure hoping that they root . Kelley

I spoke with a gentleman from Rare Finds Nursery (Jackson, NJ) who astutely pointed out what I had overlooked: the ground would have to be leveled before concrete is poured; that would necessitate commercial machinery which could be used to dig out the plant (far too big to bring inside) and carry it to a different area of the garden to replant. I should be able to hold off until the end of September, when it would be more optimal and less hot. They think it will have enough time to establish itself in the new spot. That sounds like a good plan to me. At worst, I will have to buy a new plant next summer. Does anyone have any idea what variety that is? Cindy, that is a beautiful color! It is so similar to mine! Your caption (8/12/18) says that it is a TROPICAL, while your next post says they are supposed to be hardy. Hardy hibiscus and tropical hibiscus are two completely different things with different botanical names, as I am sure you are already aware. Thanks again for all of your help.

Hi OI, If "gay fuzz" is really "gray fuzz," -LOL- you might be getting powdery mildew. Also, they donÂt like cold temps very much, and up in Idaho your temps are probably getting pretty cold by August, so that could be part of the problem. And mine seem to have a self limiting summer growing season. I have ÂDisco Belle, and after itÂs been blooming for a couple months, it pretty much stops and the leaves do gradually start to turn yellowÂkind of in preparation for winter, it seems. My guess is that you have mildew, and that will definitely turn the leaves yellow if it gets bad enough that youÂd be describing it as gray fuzz. Does what youÂre describing have a powdery look/feel to it? If powdery mildew gets bad enough and you shake the leaves, youÂll see it floating around in the air. If it seems "fuzzier" than that, try to describe it more. I canÂt think of anything that would look fuzzier than mildew. Cnet, do you have any other ideas? Welcome to RMG.
