What is sweet fennel?

I have been trying to duplicate some tea ingredients, and one of the listed ones is sweet fennel. Googling didn't bring me any satisfying results. Is this different from regular fennel, and where can I get it? All the herbal sites I went to had everything but sweet fennel.

There are several cultivars of fennel (Foeniculum vulgare). Sweet Fennel is Foeniculum vulgare 'dulce'. It doesn't have the large bulb that some of the other cultivars have, and is the one must used for it's flavorful seeds, stems, and leaves. Yum!

Let me see if I have any luck finding something for you on Google.................Here's one that mentions several of the other cultivars available, including 'dulce'. Oops, I see that 'dulce' is a variety not a cultivar!

I found a source for a very strong fennel pollen. Its packed similar to saffron in that you use very little. I think the fennel seeds you see are sweet fennel. Are you wanting flavor, seeds, or the bulbs?

Difference in Sweet fennel and Bronze fennel?

hello last year was my 1st planting for the cats, and I only planted bronze fennel and parsley, but I found BST cats at the garden center on not only the sweet fennel but on the florence fennel, so I purched one of each and ended up having a mother BST lay eggs on all of them and the cats did not seen to mind what I put them on to eat. this year I'm planting some of everything fennel -bronze -florence -sweet parsley -flat -curled -extra curled dill -mamoth -bouquet queen anns lace -dwarf and thats just for the BST, do you think that is a little overbard? :) just want them to have something they like. have a great season michelle

Doesn't sound like a bagworm (Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis) to me. Bagworms carry their little 'nests' around with them at all times, until ready to pupate or overwinter, when they secure them to a stem. The bags are not located at the tips of their host plant, either, as described by Martha. They are dark and squat, quite homely creatures, rarely seen outside of their homes, unless they are physically pulled out with tweezers. Any chance of a photograph of the nest, Martha? I can picture several insects that stitch together leaves to make a protective little tent for themselves. An image of the actual nest would be helpful for us.
