Gardening advice you ignore

Anyone else read or hear advice you don't like?

Advice in the St. Petersburg Times last Sunday:

"Try to stay out of the garden when things are too wet (from irrigating or from rainfall -- we wish). Your footsteps compact the soil, and you can inadvertently spread molds and disease."

My pet peeve are the articles (same paper) by the Key West author who writes without regard to zones but makes every type plant appear easy to cultivate in abundance.
