Pruning a Prostrate Rosemary

nina394

I have a fairly large prostrate rosemary (which I bought initally because I thought it was hardier than the other types) that I brought inside this fall. It is doing well under a grow light but while the ends of the branches are thriving, the trunk and center part of the plant is quite bare. I'd hoped that if I kept pinching off the ends of the branches, it would get bushier and more branches would emerge from the trunk. Instead, the ends of the plant are beginning to look like pom-poms. Any ideas on how to stimulate growth in the middle of the plant, or is that just a characteristic of the prostrate variety? Thanks!
