Could it be Matricaria/German Chamomile? The foliage smells very nice, sort of like pineapples. Hi Pink Petunia, See if the picture at this link helps. Rudbeckia seed can be hard to tell the difference--probably about half of what you have is chaff and half--or less--is seed. You can often "feel" a difference between the two--the seed has more "substance." If you start looking really closely, you'll be able to tell the difference, but it's a terrible job to try to separate them! The easiest thing to do is to leave it all together and plant a little pinch of it---some will be seed and some will be chaff. If you want individual plants, you can separate them after they come up and have a couple true leaves. If you're going to trade it, just be sure it's clear that the package you send will contain both seed and chaff. That's what I do with my Echinacea. Rae, I have at least a half dozen straight species type seeds and I can tell you they do not vary much. All clematis seed gets a hard head if viable. They all look relatively the same. Some have a lighter colored edge to the seed, but it is still hard. The only clematis I know that have small viable seed are the non-climbing types like C. stans, but of course the good seed are still hard. On the link below, is a pic of a Clematis montana seedhead. Not sure what you are asking Jay. I've had dill go to seed in late Summer and that seed will self germinate the following spring, thus the term "Dill weed". Although I've cut dill after a frost I've never had it continue to mature or resume growth after a killing frost. Therefore if it has not progressed to forming a seed head going into winter it will simply die. Dill is relatively fast growing. We have numerous requests for it (and corriander) potted which I have done but with a warning that the potted plant will probably look ugly within a few weeks. I assume that the heirloom variety you have is a tall type with a large seedhead so it may take longer to develop but just like for many other veggies in a high tunnel- if you want to harvest over winter it should be close to maturity going into the Fall.
