Betty's Blooming - She's 15 months old

What is this?

A Mrs. Betty Ranicar seedling, from seed received from JD in Jan 2003 has begun to bloom. One fully double white flower, with two more buds on the stalk; I'm just blown away. I moved it from the germination tray into an individual pot, then transplanted into the ground at approximately 6 months old...that was in October.

Tonight I was trimming things back in that bed; Calamintha White Cloud, some self sown Astrantia, and Diascia Vigilis were running over the top of it, and when I cut those back, found a blooming flower stalk about 8" high. It's gorgeous; why is it blooming though? (rec'd occasional application of Peter's all purpose fertilizer, half strength, while still containerized, nothing since being planted so I don't think I've been forcing it along)
