HAVE: have : lots of mints and herbs - need to find them a new h

Hi,

In my winter planning for the garden next year. I have decieded to take out all my mints and quite afew of my herbs.I am changing my herb garden into a white flower bed and I am chainging my mint bed into a succulant garden.

There's probably 10 or more herbs and at least 7 different type of mints. see my page which although not updated will give you a good idea.

SOOO I have alot to trade. I am not too picky at what I get in exchange. Any iris, daylily, succlant, sedums, white flowering or black flower zone 5 hardy perinel, autumn joys, canna, dahlia, hens and chicks - named or un named would be great. I am starting a new bed at my moms and whatever I get in trade will go over there. or if you have alot of anything and need to get rid of it let me know.

Due to bad past expereiences I will NOT send out unless I have either traded with you before or until i receive a delivery confirmaton that you have sent your package to me. Sorry to have to do this but if you are a serious trader you will not mind. I prefer large trades and will not do single one item trades.

I plan on sending all orders out in the spring.

greetings will you have in spring have of the tri (3) colored sage to trade??? also any re blooming iris or re blooming day lillies any color x orange i would be interested in... will have to trade red daliah tubers apple mint pine apple mint joy pye weed purple iron weed let me know GOD BLESS

i live in upstate new york and will have lots of comfrey, solomon's seal, tansy, etc. i would love to trade for your mints. i can start shipping as soon as the ground thaws. all good wishes.

NaturePerson, Just wanted to add my vote for basil, as I've always had an easy time growing it and have used it more than any other. The leaves are great even to add a little flavor to a regular salad. And of course any red sauce or pasta dish. A big pot is fine, but pinch back before any flowers bloom in mid-summer. Can get top heavy - you can also stake them. Rosemary, sage and thyme, as well as oregano are also my most-used and come back every year (when planted in the ground). Rosemary, actually, doesn't seem to be very dormant even in the dead winter, and has tripled/quadrupled in size in just three years. I've also grown them in pots before and they did fine. I might suggest separate pots, unless your single pot is rather large. Now that we're almost halfway into April, you should be okay if you plant now. I put basil in the ground two weeks ago and it got a little bitten by the frost last week. Am hoping it isn't completely dead - it looks iffy. Luckily with pots you can always bring them in. Hello~ Which basil seeds do you have to trade? And were they sold for this season? I'm really "into" basils this year, but if I don't get them planted by mid-August will have to wait for next year. I'm also interested in your 'Mint Julep' spearmint as I lost my good spearmint that I had for years to an aggressive weed whacker! I have a wonderful, very flavorful peppermint 'Blue Balsam' to trade. I bought it for my mother for hot mint tea over 25 years ago, because it was recommended to me by Cyrus Hyde for this and it IS the best for tea. It's also good in brownies or chocolate chip cookies. ~~ Maggie

You can start the chives, lemon balm, oregano, parsley, rosemary, sage, thyme, lavender and peppermint just about any time. I don't know what your frost situation is in Las Vegas, but I'd suspect that you could start these now indoors under lights and plant them outside when the dangers of a hard freeze were past. These are all fairly tough plants -- perennials or biennials that can take a little frost. Most would do better started indoors in small pots. The parsley, sage and lemon balm are the best candidates for direct outdoor sowing. Indoors or out, when you start the parsley, pour some boiling water over it -- it can take a while to germinate. German chamomile can be sown outdoors but I'd wait until I was pretty sure I wouldn't get a lot of frost. It's a fairly hardy annual. Basil is an annual, too, but it's very frost-sensitive. I'd start it indoors. If you have seeds for tarragon, you should know that it isn't the kind that cookbooks call for -- that tarragon does not set viable seed. I suspect you have Russian tarragon, which is tasteless, or Mexican tarragon, which has a tarragon-like taste but which is in a different plant family. If it's Mexican tarragon, try planting it outdoors when frost is unklikely. If it's Russian tarragon, don't bother -- chalk the price of the seeds up to experience. For real tarragon, buy a small plant. It can supply you with tarragon for years. All of these herbs do fine in full-sun-all-day spots, although they will survive some shade. If you have a choice, choose sun. I have no idea what you soil is like, but herbs do fine in most garden soils except in really wet spots (and the mint will do ok even there). The gardening column in your local paper will give you a better idea than I can of what kinds of things you might have to add to your soil. Just remember that herbs do not require the richest soils. The thymes, lavenders, basil, oreganos and sage must have as much sun as you can give them. SJW can go just about anywhere - it's a weed that can spread far and wide, and you'd best check if it's a prohibited plant in your area. It'll grow in full sun or dappled shade. The chamomiles will grow in full sun in a cool climate, but must be in partial shade in a hot climate. The German chamomile will take over the Roman/English chamomile - it's taller and more robust.

I would love to have some of your mints, esp. the ginger, marshmellow, penny royal and even some sage. I have some cannas, croscomias, possibly some ginger. PLMK

Hi, I am brand new on this site, I would love some of your herbs and mints. I would be happy to send a lot of orange daylilys, I dont know the name, but they are big double orange flowers, I also have black hollyhock seeds,and I dont know if the autumn joy sedum is seeding yet but I can check tomorrow. or dig a small clump.
I understand your not sending until recieving, seems fair..
